I love a good internet bet.

So obviously a ton can change between now and 2028, but who are some of the current Dem leading candidates who would check all the boxes of “white, straight, Christian guy from the South?”

Beshear from Kentucky I know. Anyone else towards the forefront right now?

Bigger problem for Dems. Your assertions center around one man in the Party - who's proven to have a teflon veneer which can easily withstand accusations and cheep shots from the media/libs.

No way a straight, Southern, Christian moderate like Beshear gets through a Dem primary in 2027/28.
You right this as to say that a party that supports equal rights for LBGTQ people can't also support equal rights for all.

We support equal rights for all, so being a White straight southern Christian, isn't an issue. Now you may struggle with the fact that white straight southern Christian doesn't equal white Christian nationalist and in such we cannot support the latter.

Your points in paragraph 1 are fair and reasonable. I'm not suggesting that the college protestors are representative of "rank and file" Democrats. But I do believe they are the potential future of the Democratic Party and have influence far beyond their numbers.

You're diminishing the importance of the office of the Mayor of NYC. It's a national office in it's scope and influence. Mamdani will be the next Mayor (Adams, Cuomo and Sliwa appear to be staying in) so it's time to start paying attention to him. I don't live in NYC but it's the most important city in the US and I fear for its financial health, and safety, should Mamdani's socialists policies be enacted.

Finally, Sydney Sweeney ad went far beyond just Fox news!
The office of mayor of NYC (which Mamdani does not yet hold) is hugely important to NYC and the millions of people who live there. It is not at all important to national politics. But I completely understand why you and the rest of the right-wing news media would rather talk about Mamdani, who is essentially irrelevant to your own life, then try to defend Trump on the merits.

Many of your post seem to indicate that you do actually see them as representing the rank and file Democrats.

Which "socialist" policies are going to bring down NYC? Are they actually socialist or are they simply focused on equity and better living standards for everyone? I haven't read of him wanting to take over the means of production.

Why is wanting to address housing issues considered socialist? Why is addressing poverty and nutrition issues considered socialist?

Most things are better if we work together and share the burden, it's much better than every man for himself or the your team my team approaches, if that's considered socialist, then the issue might be more in the empathy and caring of the person labeling it socialist than it actually being socialist.

There is no defending trump on his merits.

Beshear is the only frontrunner candidate i know who would fit that bill. If I was making the bet I would have dropped the "Southern" part from the qualifier, because there aren't really any strong candidates who fit other than him, at least that I know of.

Why would any of that matter?

I'm not citing based on any of those characteristics.

Would the head of the Republican Party for the past decade be considered an extreme fringe figure?
I would say his behavior, dishonesty, etc is fringe behavior for any civilized person, much less POTUS.

I can't think of a political view that I'd call fringe or extreme.

You can't think of a Trump political view that is fringe or extreme? LOL. How about:

  • Barack Obama is not a US citizen
  • Ending birthright citizenship (and in particular the theory that children of unlawful residents are not "subject to the jurisdiction [of the United States]" for purposes of the 14th amendment)
  • Income taxes can be eliminated and the lost revenue entirely made up for through tariffs
  • Trump rightfully won the 2020 election and it was "stolen" through election interference by Democrats
  • Millions of illegal immigrants vote in US elections
  • Ukraine, not Russia, started the war in Ukraine
  • Obama and numerous others committed treason in connection with the 2016 election

I would put most of those, especially the stolen election BS, under the "dishonesty" category.

Agree on birthright citizenship
Mostly agree on Ukraine/russia

I don't recall Trump saying he'd eliminate all income taxes. If he did, yes, that is extreme.

I believe he said his tariffs would eventually allow the elimination of income taxes.

“We’re going to make a lot of money, and we’re going to cut taxes for the people of this country,” Trump said before boarding Air Force One for his return from Pope Francis’ funeral in Rome. “It’ll take a little while before we do that, but we’re going to be cutting taxes, and it’s possible we’ll do a complete tax cut, because I think the tariffs will be enough to cut all of the income tax.”

I’m confused by what you mean here. There was a bet entered into on this thread that the Dem candidate would have those characteristics. And I’m just gauging which hopefuls even check all those boxes.
I'm just saying those shouldn't be important factors.

I didn't read the other post.

Eh. I’m bored. It’s just $100. And we are three years from knowing the answer.

I would like to take a moment congratulate you guys on the relative dearth of Sydney Sweeney photos and videos in this thread. Because if this had been about, say, Glen Powell or Michael B. Jordan, I cannot say I would have been so restrained.
