More registered voters say the U.S. is heading in the right direction (44%) than at any point since early 2004, though a majority (54%) still say the country is on the wrong track, according to an NBC News poll out this morning.

Why it matters: President Trump has enjoyed some of his highest approval ratings in the early days of his second term — though the specifics of his aggressive policies have begun to irk Americans in recent polling.

  • But as the president rolls out a cascade of controversial actions, Democrats are the ones hitting new polling lows — underscoring frustration within the party that lawmakers are being flattened by a GOP steamroller.
Driving the news: Trump's job approval rating in the new NBC News poll (47%) matches his all-time highs in NBC News polling throughout his political career (37% "strongly approve," 10% "somewhat approve").

  • 1,000 registered voters were polled March 7-11, with a margin of error of ±3.1%.
The other side: The Democratic Party reached an all-time low in popularity in NBC polling dating back to 1990.

  • A net 27% of those polled said they have positive views of the party (20% positive and 7% very positive).
  • CNN's latest polling also found that the Democratic party's favorability rating among Americans is now at just 29%, a new low in in the outlet's polling dating back to 1992.

Not saying it’s totally meaningless but this polling is mostly just a reflection of the differing loyalty among Pubs and Dems to their parties. Pubs have become a zombie cult. Independents are already souring on Trump at a remarkable rate.

I think a huge part of the Democratic Party's low approval rating is coming from their own base, which is growing increasingly frustrated and angry at their party's refusal to more openly and aggressively speak out against Trump. So I don't think the Democrats are currently rated low because of what many people (especially Trumpers) likely think. People aren't rejecting Democratic policies (most of which do very well - often extremely well - in polls). Instead it's mostly Democrats rejecting their party's leadership and its response to Trump as of the moment. Just my two cents.

Never thought of that...........I suspect there is a lot of that ........Jeffries and Shumer not getting along makes most Dems mad--not they won't vote Dem in 2026

To be honest I don't think most Democrats care if Jeffries and Schumer are mad at each other, that's mostly inside-the-beltway drama that people outside of DC usually ignore. I think it's more that the overall response of the Democratic leadership to Trump 2.0 thus far is seen as weak and timid and disorganized and many Democrats are expressing their anger in these polls when asked how they feel about the Democratic Party right now.

So is now a good time for a New Party to gear up for 2026?
Moderates or some such..............

Not just no but hell no. I'm all for a reform movement in the Democratic Party but not a new party. We need to win this from the ground up. There's no way a new party can do that and trying would just help the MAGAts.
"I'm all for a reform movement in the Democratic Party.."
Yea that would be good

I have in some small way made my speculations known, that the problem is not about political parties right now. There is an idea (after Sun Tzu and Napoleon) that if your opponent is basically lighting themselves on fire, you move back to a safe distance, sit down, and watch.

It's absurd to think, however, that this fire upsets Trump voters. I remind of the cultists who drank poison for Jim Jones. Each time you see a Trump cultist post on this board, you need to remember those bodies, swelling and bubbling in the sun. Think if you want to debate them.

Next, I think that either this cult is overthrown soon, like with a year, or it stabilizes into carved granite permanency. We become the USSR West.
