I like to use the conservative RCP average of polls to see what new polls they are adding to bolster Trump's support. The latest new addition is the tabloid Daily Mail poll that has Trump with a 55% approval rating

This is one of those things that he periodically says and it's completely unrelated to any polls. I don't even think it has to do with him being fed good numbers from his staff. I think he just blurts it out whenever he feels like it.
