Driver intentionally rammed NYE crowds and apparently opened fire before being shot and killed by police.

Press conference now, Mayor of NOLA is calling this a terrorist attack but the FBI came out afterwards and said that it is not one. So, who knows.

Eta. Looking at it, almost positive it's true. You can see a police officer fire right as the dude with the camera starts running. Looks like the driver hit a big crane or else he would have ran over more people.

A LEO expert they had on CNN this morning (who lives in NOLA) said the city uses large vehicles like that (dump trucks etc) as additional barriers to try to protect the district pedestrians from these sorts of events.
