Bill Maher dines with The Donald

It’s enlightening that most of you can’t deal with a comedian/host who agrees with 95% of what you believe but dares to take issue with some of your crazies. This makes him a sell out, a persona non grata and a panderer to the right.

And you call MAGA a cult.

Who said we can't deal? What's enlightening is that we can call an asshat an asshat even if he ostensibly "agrees with 95%" of what we believe. You should try it sometime. Maher is a douchenozzle who preens endlessly for attention. That's true whether I agree with him on issues or not.

Yeah, you are a cult. You literally called Donald Trump an "alpha male." No serious male ever refers to another male as an "alpha male" unironically, and moreover, no serious male refers to a person as an "alpha male" when the male to whom you're referring is caked in women's makeup, has an obese doughy body, wears adult diapers because he shits himself, and wears lifts in his shoes. You're in a cult, bud! Own it!

The irony is that MAGA people LOVEEEE Bill Maher. Go on any right wing website and it’s all the same. Even on this site, it is the board Trumpers who have nothing but good things to say about him.

He is one of the many high-profile atheists that have adopted bro culture in the past 10 years. The atheists, by and large, are now quite conservative politically.

He regularly refers to himself as “an old school liberal” - not a centrist. Maher strongly supported Clinton/Obama/Hillary/Biden and Kamala.
“Maher strongly supported Clinton/Obama/Hillary/Biden and Harris.”

This is why Maher is such a hypocritical, ‘Bo-siding, whataboutist BS grifter……he spews BS about how left-wing the Democrats are…..and the Democrats nominate centrists.

Then Maher complains and complains about how left-wing the Democrats are.

I think you may well be the first person to ever describe Maher as "thoughtful."
I never cared for Maher, even in his supposedly liberal days in the 90s. He's always struck me as someone who likes to sound smart and thoughtful while actually being superficial and fickle, very cocky and egotistical, and extremely vain. His politics are those of the self, not of any political ideology or party. Like several other white male 90s celebrities, he's also become a grumpy old man and increasingly hostile to liberals and liberalism generally in his old age.

His policies and actions are those of an alpha male. Just ask Iran, illegal gangbangers and NATO.

There's no doubt in my mind that Maher genuinely despises Trump and Maga, politically speaking. He certainly spends much more time and is much more vociferous in his criticism of Trump and Maga than he is in his criticism of the left, which is largely confined to and focused on the ostensible "loony left" aspects of the left. Given that and his overt atheism and gleeful and frequent sass of christianity, I do find it somewhat odd that Maga types seem to love him and a lot of dems seem to hate him. Most of this applies to Christopher Hitchens as well, who was a frequent guest on Maher's shows, but who was certainly far smarter, wittier and even outright funnier than Maher, to say nothing of being far more articulate and having a far deeper understand of politics, history, and political history.

I find Maher mildly entertaining and generally watch his show every week. Often has at least one good guest, sometimes more, sometimes none, same as any talk show. He's done well for himself. His sycophantic live audience is mildly annoying. I used to wonder if they were flashing "Applause" signs at them but I don't think those brown-nosers need any more encouragement. At least once per show some segment of the audience laughs or claps at an inappropriate moment and even Maher does a double take and is like "you're applauding for that?", which of course get another laugh from the audience. If you could get rid of the audience laughter and applause you'd cut 10 minutes off the show. I mean, I get it for his opening standup monologue or during his New Rules segment, but the interview and discussion portions of the show would flow much better if the audience would just shut the fuck up and listen...

The whole idea of "alpha male" is the most self contradictory thing in the world. Anyone who labels people that way or uses the phrase as a descriptor is a complete wuss who gets biweekly manicures and has never done a day of real labor in their life.

Good take.

I watch Maher’s show every week and this is 100% accurate.

For me, I find him to be an interesting and humorous commentator on politics and popular culture. He doesn’t follow the Dem talking points and is an independent thinker with generally interesting guests.

Plus, he doesn’t despise MAGA, often telling his audience that they’re going to have to learn to live with their MAGA neighbors and countrymen. Maher also brags about touring deep red states.
