Bill Maher dines with The Donald

Understand your cup of tea is the Biden/Blinkin/Sullivan and masked + face shield AWOL Austin.
I recognize one word in whatever that gibberish word salad is, and that’s the first one. Otherwise I have no clue what you are talking about, and you sound like someone who should be confined against their will into a padded circular room. Do you not ever get tired of sounding like a fool? This was literally Fox News MAGA Tourette’s.

Edited to add: well, I reckon I actually know two of the words in that gibberish- Biden and Blinkin. Absolutely cannot wait to hear what they have to do with the price of tea in China as it pertains to Demented Diaper Don being an alpha male!

Plus, he doesn’t despise MAGA
He despises their politics but thinks you need to learn to live at least cordially with people whose politics you despise. But there's no doubt he despises the brand of politics and political mode of being that Maga embodies. Also, it's kinda easy for him to say "Well, you've got to live with these people, you might as well be polite and cordial even if you hate their politics," b/c he likely has very few (any?) Maga friends or Maga folks that he has to interact with. Except when he's taking his act to red states to extract money from them, which I'm sure takes a little bit of the sting out having to interact with them (if you can even refer to performing a standup act and then leaving as "interacting" with them)...

It’s enlightening that most of you can’t deal with a comedian/host who agrees with 95% of what you believe but dares to take issue with some of your crazies. This makes him a sell out, a persona non grata and a panderer to the right.

And you call MAGA a cult.

This may come as a shock to you, but over here on the left we don't give someone carte blanche to be an asshole *simply because they're on the left*

Trump is a trust fund baby who bought his way out of service to his country, squandered his inheritance, cheated on every wife he's ever had, cheated on every business partner he's ever had, got ran out of his own hometown, was investigated for fraudulent charities, cheats at EVERYTHING! Was found liable for sexual assult, has multiple aligations of sexual misconduct, caroused with Jeffery Epstein, bragged about his sexual desires for his own daughter, and has never displayed one OUNCE of integrity.

Nobody, and I mean nobody has ever associated themselves with him unless they benefited from it in some way. And I haven't even mentioned his appearance. He wears more makup than RuPaul. Sports the worlds WORST comb over, looks like melted ice cream and smells like shit. He can't drive, bait a hook, cook, clean or feed himself. He's a GIGANTIC toddler who grifts everyone he's ever known and the only people he will ever make happy are the mexicans who will eventually dig his grave.

If you think THAT is an "Alpha Male" then you need to reassess your life, because it's no doubt in shambles.

Yes you do. You hate Maher simply because he dares to disagree with a tiny fraction of what you believe. Purity test.

I agree with all that you write, but the whole thing about St. Donald of Mar-a-Lago publicly lusting after his own daughter on The Howard Stern Show: a) would have crippled/destroyed the political career of almost anyone else and 2) really speaks volumes about the secret, unspoken desires of the typical male Trump voter. If this is what St. Donald feels free to say in public, then what the H * E * L * L does he do in private?

It's wild.

I can't speak for anyone else on here, but your description doesn't fit me at all.

I never really had an opinion on him one way or another until I heard him talking about religion in general, and Islam in particular. He came across as a smarmy, arrogant, and very ignorant person who thought he was a lot smarter and more well-informed than he actually was. From that moment on I didn't like him. It's not because I agree or disagree with him on stuff - I probably agree with him on most things - it's because I think he has shit-fer-brains.

I just want to state for the record that if I ever get to such a low point in my life where I am having to project alpha male status onto another man because I’m feeling insecure about my own masculinity, I want y'all- somebody, anybody- to take me out back behind the barn and put me down like a packhorse with a broken leg. Don’t even ask questions, just put me out of my misery.

Wouldn't you want an opportunity at rehab first?

I had to take a look at this thread to see why it keeps going, and I see much of it is responding to a Trump cultist. For the same reason, both the cultist and Maher deserve to be ignored. For the same reason, Maher and Trump cultists will never be moved to think due to valid criticism.

I have zero interest in Maher. He is a phony both-sider, and worse, a core longtime ideologue of the selfish libertarian stripe (of the idiotic, Ayn Rand variety--I am not digressing on that here), and I really don't care if he is an open atheist like I am. I don't want him speaking for me on that or anything else. Sometimes the worst thing going is someone who agrees with you on one or a few topics for valid reasons, and is wrong on a dozen more with no reasoning at all. Here is one of dozens of examples, very like the imbecile Joe Rogan, if not exactly that ridiculously stupid, of bowing down to dangerous falsehoods. A good article excerpt on him:

"The autism issue, they certainly have studied it a million times… and yet, there’s all these parents who say, I had a normal child, got the vaccine… this story keeps coming up. It seems to be more realistic to me, if we’re just going to be realistic about it.”
...
Maher arrogantly thinks he is smarter and has a more thoughtful approach to medicine than the world’s medical experts who have dedicated their lives to thinking carefully about medicine. Do tell, Maher – we should take family history and individual medical history into account when individualizing treatment to specific patients based on current evidence? Interesting idea. You should give lectures at medical schools and share your wisdom. Perhaps publish your critique in a peer-reviewed medical journal. We’re all fascinated by your uncanny insight (am I laying it on too thick?).

As further evidence of Maher’s guru-like medical insight, he then goes on to counter the mountain of scientific evidence he admits to with, “It seems more realistic to me…” Sure, there many be many scientific studies showing no correlation between vaccines and autism – there is simply no signal in the data – but on the other hands we have these anecdotal reports. Let’s be realistic here. If there’s one thing that history has shown, it’s that anecdotal reports are entirely unreliable, subjective, biased, and misleading…but that doesn’t really support his point, so just forget that. Let’s get back to Maher’s subjective, poorly informed, non-expert feelings.

So what is Maher’s major malfunction? Again – based on the evidence in the public domain – what I have observed is that Maher does not really follow a process of logic, science, and critical thinking. He apparently takes positions for other reasons, based on ideology with a huge helping of arrogance. He then defends his positions with logic and critical thinking as much as he can. So when his positions happen to be reasonable, he sounds like a champion of critical thinking. When he defends the scientific consensus, like on global warming, or when he takes on religion-based anti-science, he champions skepticism. But then he pivots to positions that are not based on the scientific consensus, and he engages in willful motivated reasoning, untempered by humility.

What kind of rehab? Would it involve hiking and camping in a National Park? Would it involve hiking and camping in a beautiful and reasonably flat National Park? Would it involve hiking and camping in a beautiful and reasonably flat National Park in the company of beautiful young women who found the aimless, pointless, and boring ramblings about my life absolutely fascinating?

EDIT: Replace the work "camping" with "glamping"

Thanks for that. Not digressing on Ayn Rand, I mean. I watched The Fountainhead the other night, Ayn Rand was credited as the screenwriter and it showed. God, the dialogue was awful, as was the book, but at least the movie was only 2 hours long. Visually very pleasing, though, very much including a young Patricia Neal in her first screen appearance. But man, that dialogue, and just the whole stupid premise of the whole goddamn thing, same with all the rest of Rand's tripe...

Trump as an “alpha male” in the eyes of the right really is a perfect example of what their alpha males are…a facile projection of strength in place of actual strength, fragile masculinity in place of real masculinity, bullying in place of protecting others.

The right’s concept of “alpha males” is nothing more than a corruption of real masculinity, in the way that so much of what the right pushes is, in essence, a parody of what they claim to support.

Bill is a Joe Rogan-style junk science guy when it comes to health issues.
