Wow such a fickle but vocal bunch we so called fans are? You lose a friggin generational talent to injury and blame the coach that’s running the same program the same way yet it’s his fault? Like “call a timeout Roy” such small minded people for such a great program. I’m sorry but at some point race is why you think HD is lesser than. I’m ashamed for you guys but you do you.

You could see this coming a mile away. I think the team was feeling that they were prepared to make a big run when Caleb returned. Then he literally takes himself out of commission on his first practice back on a no-contact dunk attempt (why, Caleb, WHY?), and it kind of took the wind out of everyone's sails. There is a very real chance that what had been a pretty successful season will end with us limping out with three consecutive losses and another first round exit from the NCAAs. Even in the best scenario, we probably aren't making it out of the first weekend, which I felt we absolutely had to do to be able to label this a successful year. So, this year will go into the "Meh" category that Hubert seems to live in these days. We'll be no closer to a resolution on whether he's the right guy for the job one way or another because the overall results will still indicate that this was another (low-seeded) NCAA tourney team.

So, we'll enter next season with the same questions about our coach, but without the services of Caleb Wilson and probably Henri Veesaar. And on and on we go.

Such a lousy post. It is fine to not be cool with being down by 18 to an unranked team without their starting center in the first game of the ACCT. That has nothing to do with race and everything to do with expecting UNC to be competitive against lesser competition.

I'm trying to remember. Who was favored? Was there anything that ended up in Clemson's favor other than 3 point shooting and free throws? Which are the two things that coaching affects the least during the game? What was their "starting" center shooting from 3? Was was his replacement's line overall?

For a bunch of people who put metrics above the eye test, y'all have some shitty arguments. We lost but we played our ass off in the end. We dug a hole with bad shooting and dumb mistakes and still fought like hell.

I don't know how any fan can defend 20-40 in quad one games. He's family and a nice guy I get that, but 20-40 at UNC?

Clemson was indeed favored by as much as 3.5 I saw in one place.

On to the next one. There is, indeed, another one.

Seemed to follow the same script as most of our losses - get down by double digits, poor free throw shooting, poor guard play. Margin of error without Caleb is really slim (although we should beat that Clemson team 8 out of 10). Seth, Luka, JP have to be better to have a chance. Seth scored some points, but seemed pretty uninterested and out of it for most of the night. Henri deserves better. The guy is getting beaten up all game and still has a career high.

One more season for Hubert - but at the moment I can't see how next years team is better....

Once again, free throws do us in. I’s been a problem all year long. I don’t understand why we are such a bad free throw shooting team.
Because we do not work on it enough. Free throws can be improved with repetition but it must be a focus. I dont know how much we focus on them, but it isnt enough.

UNC was favored by 1.5 yesterday afternoon.

I don’t know that it’s that. Hubert’s previous teams were all really good free throw shooting teams; among UNC’s best ever. The percentage has dropped this year from Hubert’s previous years. And it’s still right around average. But there are just certain games where it bites us in the ass, or nearly bites us in the ass.

When Bill Guthridge was coach there was a game, or maybe multiple games, where the team struggled from the free throw line. Gut was asked at a press conference about what what they were doing in practice to remedy any free throw shooting woes. Gut said the they didn’t work on free throw shooting in practice because so much of it is mental, and focusing on it in practice was bad for the mental aspect of it. He suggested the players (generally) know how to shoot free throws and practice them on their own. I assumed, but could be wrong in assuming, that he carried that over from Dean Smith. But who knows?

Fwiw, the real game winning "decision" was starting Davidson over Welling, the injured player. If he's not 4-4 from three and doesn't collect 11 rebounds, it's likely a win for us. ;)
