Biorhythms for Carolina @SMU: 2:15 Start on CW

We certainly had talent, but I wouldn't say it was more talent than 97% of other D1 teams. And I said that Scheyer has certainly been more consistent, at least so far, but he not only hasn't closed, but has suffered some embarrassing losses (like last year) in the tournament. I have a hard time with the argument that, based on a little more than three years of direct competition, that Scheyer is clearly a better coach.
there are >350 teams ... while the roster might not be put together well certainly a top 10 talent especially in the year when they came to number one.

The lowered expectations that have come... you're talking about embarrassing losses of last year ignoring the fact we didn't make the tournament and had to be gifted into the play in before being embarrassed in the only tournament game.

Also recruiting is a part of coaching, Hubert had that crazy 1st year run, but Scheyer is clearly running a better program...even acknowledging built in advantages.

But screw dook, Vandy/Mich/Florida have found Good up/comers as well... I particularly like the Vandy coach.

Yeah, I don't know how anyone can rationally think HD and Scheyer are on the same level right now.

Thank you !

I was looking at ESPN data ☹️
RealGm isn’t perfect but for a player’s history does a pretty good job.

It is also best for birthdates.

An aside is that increasingly individual players as well as schools seem reluctant to provide birthdays. In past years I have usually been able to find every significant player’s birthday. This is no longer the case. Carolina and most Power Schools are still fairly complete with that information but even there with players making rather precipitous rises from lower level programs that data grows spottier and spottier.

Recruiting has always been part of coaching and I am sure to some extent it still is. But it seem it’s becoming less and less part of it as more and more college players follow the money. Granted, I assume players will generally factor in whether they feel they’ll get along with the coach and whether the coach will use them in a way that best showcases their talents, so I guess a coach always has to sell that they’re the right one for those things.

Rewatched every defensive possession in this game. Transition defense was about as bad as any of it

On one possession Veesaar stops ball instead of going to the rim and SMU gets a layup

On several possessions no one picks up shooters who step into wide open 3s

No one played a plus defensive game in this one except maybe Jarin. Who also struggled with the quick guards

It's not so much recruiting as it is buying players.

dook and UK have had a big advantage with that for over a decade.
