I was referring to Scheyer...
What more do you believe Scheyer should have accomplished in his first 3 years?I'm not sure any coach has gotten less out of more in the history of college basketball...
dook has it going like no one else in recruitmentWell, He just didn't have the talent that UNC had. Just couldn't get the glue guys.
Under Jon Scheyer as head coach (starting 2022-23 season), Duke has landed 10 McDonald's All-Americans across his first four recruiting classes, maintaining Duke's status as a top recruiting power, including top-ranked players like Cooper Flagg and Isaiah Evans. This demonstrates significant success in attracting elite talent to Durham under his tenure.
Breakdown by Class (Approximate):
In total, these elite recruits contribute to the impressive 10 McDonald's All-Americans brought in by Scheyer's
- 2022 Class: Landed the nation's top two players, both McDonald's All-Americans.
- 2024 Class: Signed the #1 player in the nation, a McDonald's All-American.
- 2025 Class: Secured the #3 player in the nation, also a McDonald's All-American.
But don’t let that stop the HD haters from going to bat for Scheyer. They round down for HD but round up for Scheyer.Idk if Scheyer has underachieved that much overall but he has won less than expected in the NCAAT
Final 4 loss loss that somehow makes the halftime lead UNC blew in ‘22 look mild in comparison
Mediocre team the year prior that couldn’t get past nc state of all teams on the plantet in the elite 8
The team prior to that was about the same. Couldn’t pull away from the bad ‘23 UNC. Beat by a better Tennessee in 2nd round
Scheyer has continued on with K's late career trajectory... assembling teams of elite talent who flame out every year in the tournament. He had 3 players drafted in the top 10 last year. We are pissed that HD is not getting more out of a team with 1 elite player. I was being a bit tongue and cheek, but it's embarrassing how much elite talent has come and gone in the past decade+ since they last even made a NC game. We are obsessed with how bad our recruiting has been, yet we've played in 3 NC games since they last played in one. What more do you believe Scheyer should have accomplished in his first 3 years?
1-3 national titles with the best talent in at least 2 of his years there. What more do you believe Scheyer should have accomplished in his first 3 years?
Winning national championships is hard. Even with elite talent.1-3 national titles with the best talent in at least 2 of his years there.
We have won 4 NCAA Final four games since they have won 1 (2015) In that time they have seriuosly had like 20 lottery picksScheyer has continued on with K's late career trajectory... assembling teams of elite talent who flame out every year in the tournament. You seriously think it's a truly significant failure that Scheyer hasn't won a national title, much less multiple ones, in just 3 seasons?1-3 national titles with the best talent in at least 2 of his years there.
Yes. No excuse not to win it all last year. You seriously think it's a truly significant failure that Scheyer hasn't won a national title, much less multiple ones, in just 3 seasons?
Really?
Yeah, and everyone looked at it as failure.Winning national championships is hard. Even with elite talent.
Between 1983 and 1990, UNC had elite talent— as well had a great head coach and great assistant coaches— and failed to even reach a Final Four.
Not everyone. And whoever did wasn’t necessarily right. But also a big difference between reaching a Final Four, which is hard to do, and winning a championship, which is extremely hard to do. Even among all the great UNC teams I’ve seen, while there were quite few I thought had a great shot at winning it all, I never expected any of them to.Yeah, and everyone looked at it as failure.
Thanks for answering.Yes. No excuse not to win it all last year.
It's the born on 3rd base thing. Thanks for answering.
Honestly I think they are more balanced , better team this year?I’m not sure people fully appreciate how loaded last year’s Duke team was compared to the field
When you factor in their odds of winning the game that played out in the Final 4 + the NCG vs Florida, yes they should have won it
Last year they had 5 current NBA players (including the top 2 rookies) plus 4 key contributors on this years team.Honestly I think they are more balanced , better team this year?
