Let's be clear, the vast majority of posters (here and even on IC) are actively rooting for and supporting the current players and coaches. Even the majority of those who think a coaching change needs to be made hope this year's team wins all of their games. (I mean, it's the lack of winning games that has folks wanting a change.)
The things that annoy me about the "sunshine pumpers" are (in no particular order)...
1) The tendency to just shout "All is fine!" no matter how badly the team has played and how poor the results are. It's certainly a small number of posters, but there is a group of Chip Dillers who refuse to admit that there are any real problems with the program.
2) Blaming the players for issues in order to avoid putting the blame on the coach(es). The claims/implications that the players are lazy or unskilled or failing to listen to the coaches and are to blame for lack of team success.
3) Saying that folks are complaining because of "one bad game" or "one bad year". Folks aren't upset over "one bad [anything]", they're upset because the overall performance under Hubert has been consistently lacking.
4) Minimizing the issues of where things are under Hubert vis-a-vis our traditional success. This comes in a couple of forms...
A) Underselling Roy's accomplishments or overselling the dip that the program took for a season or 2 at the very end of Roy's career. Yep, there were a couple of rough years for Roy over the last 4, but those issues were largely addressed and Roy left the program in pretty good shape with a great set of players for Hubert.
B) Overselling the success Hubert has had. An example: Holding up stats like "Hubert has won 20 games every year!" Winning 20 games used to be a fairly significant accomplishment when teams played ~30 games a season but when teams now routinely play 35+ games a season, winning 20 games is no longer the achievement it used to be. (Another version of this is the idea that 2 games in 2022 are essentially a trump card over any other performance issues. Yes, we all enjoyed the end of Coach K's career, but those games don't excuse any or all other performance failures.)
5) Ignoring statistics that show how poorly our team plays on a regular basis. A couple of examples: Looking solely at the win-loss record when advanced metrics show that we're not playing nearly as well as our record would suggest. Or acting like making the NCAAT is an actual accomplishment for a progam the level of Carolina Basketball when we're making it as a low seed.
6) Blaming outside issues for the performance failures under HD, namely the claims that the biggest problems are COVID or NIL or the transfer portal. HD took over during COVID and it can't be reasonably blamed for anything beyond his first season (which was one of his better seasons with how it ended). NIL and the transfer portal is a systemic change and every program in CBB has had to address those changes. Carolina Basketball has more resources and advantages than nearly every other school in D1 and even P4 and should have been better positioned to address those changes rather than floundering due to them.
In short, what annoys me about the "positive folks" is that there is a consistent denial of the problems facing the program and a consistent tendency to blame everyone but HD for what problems are admitted. At some point, when the problems are consistent across years and aren't reasonably addressed, the responsibility correctly lies with the highest leadership of the program.
As far as positivity vs negativity, I think both are annoying when inappropriate and undeserved. I agree that folks on IC who were being negative after yesterday's win were annoying. But it is just as annoying when folks are overly positive when things are pretty obviously going poorly. Being positive or negative alone isn't the issue, it's being the one that isn't supported by the facts of how the program is performing.
