Biorhythms for dook @UNC: 6:30 Start

that was nuts, no pun intended.

brown intentionally forearm shivered veesaar below the belt and it was obvious on the replays and the commentators kept talking about veesaar's chest and that he was catching his breath. wtaf.
Yeah, guys don’t usually grab their groin after taking a shot to the chest.

A few thoughts:

  • As someone that has been a skeptic of Hubert and in favor of building a new arena, this game was an easy retort to both of those narratives lol. Very well managed game overall by our staff, and the crowd seemed as raucous as you could ask for (at least watching from the couch).
  • Caleb looks like a combination of Marvin Williams and Harrison Barnes. Body type and play style. The long range pull-up jumper at the end of the first half and then the pump fake from the elbow->easy layup early in the second half were eerily reminiscent of the black falcon.
  • Cameron Boozer reminds me of Banchero. Unquestionably a dominant college player but I have doubts that his game will translate to the NBA.
  • Very fitting that Wilson, Veesaar, then Trimble were the three guys that led the way tonight. The other peripheral players made massive contributions in small doses, but I think the aforementioned trio being the main producers is the key to success.
the boozer / banchero comparison is a bit odd esp after saying you don't know if his game will translate......banchero's game has definitely translated.

i agree with you fwiw just don't think banchero is a great comparison as he's a very good NBA player. boozer seems like he's kind of at his ceiling already and even though he's got a big, well developed body he's not an elite run and jump guy. a lot of his game seems dependent on his bulk and strength and that's not gonna work as well at the next level with bigger, stronger dudes everywhere.

as far as dookies go he kinda reminds me of a taller jabari parker. big, thick boy with a lot of skills but doesn't have elite athleticism.

Jared Sullinger may be a good comparison.

As of this season, the ACC fines schools for storming the the court. It’s a $50k fine for the first offense and a $100k for a second offense.

Are we down $150k?

There's a woman that has been in charge of Dean Smith Center game security for decades...she was an undergrad doing that same job and has moved up the ranks in the years since...I think they nicknamed her Sarge (after the old equipment man in Woollen Gym?) years ago.

This coming out of her pay?

too big! keeping it dookie, jabari parker is a good shout. boozer is a bit taller but they're similarly skilled and have similar body types without the elite athleticism.
Jared Sullinger was 6’9, ~265 his last year of college (though he entered college at 280+). Boozer is 6’9, 250. Parker was 6’8, 235. He was leaner.

The difference with Parker is that Boozer’s a pretty good defensive player and there’s a coach out there somewhere in Europe still trying to teach Parker that he can give energy & effort on the defensive half of the court.

I wonder what the odds would be of us beating Virginia after being down 16 and dook down 13. 1000 to one on each? Million to one on both?

Boozer reminds me of a combo of Sean May and Tyler Hansbrough. His skills (passing and outside shooting and great hands) more remind me of May but he has some of the Hansbrough stout build, motor and power around the basket. Both of those Tar Heels were dominant college players but didn’t translate well to NBA, due to size/height, below the rim athleticism and outside shooting limits (esp. Hansbrough). I think the combo of those talents makes Boozer a better NBA prospect than either of them, but they are who I think of watching Boozer.

We can and do delightfully quibble about which UNC/Duke games belong on the Mount Rushmore of UNC/Duke games (from a UNC perspective, of course), but I doubt there's a quibbler who's personal Mount Rushmore doesn't have a new noggin on it this morning, however dear a place the previous occupant held in his heart. And I don't think recency bias has much if anything to do with that assessement. I guess by definition we'll have to wait and see, but I really don't think so....

Perhaps the main things that kept May’s game from translating to the NBA were injuries, a love of partying, and an aversion to staying in shape.

No doubt — I deleted a reference to his conditioning issues as it is not applicable to Boozer and felt a little mean the way I had written it.

Are we using Mount Rushmore here as a loose term for “greatest [whatever] in a group of things” or are we limiting it to 4 things like on the literal Mount Rushmore?

Because I agree with the former, but I don’t think this is a top 4 Carolina-dook game of all time.
