Biorhythms for dook @UNC: 6:30 Start

Jones and Adam spent a good bit of time talking about whether or not it was the latest at the top of their Rapid Reactions show. They said they had been discussing it between the two of them. It wasn't obvious to them so I thought it was an interesting anecdote to acknowledge about the rivalry. 🤷‍♂️
Think that poster interpreted your post to mean that Seth’s shot was chronologically the most recent game winning basket in the rivalry.

I know what you meant though lol, if that’s true that’s pretty interesting. Gun to my head I would have assumed we had a true buzzer beater against Dook at some point over the years, but I guess we haven’t.

A few thoughts:

  • As someone that has been a skeptic of Hubert and in favor of building a new arena, this game was an easy retort to both of those narratives lol. Very well managed game overall by our staff, and the crowd seemed as raucous as you could ask for (at least watching from the couch).
  • Caleb looks like a combination of Marvin Williams and Harrison Barnes. Body type and play style. The long range pull-up jumper at the end of the first half and then the pump fake from the elbow->easy layup early in the second half were eerily reminiscent of the black falcon.
  • Cameron Boozer reminds me of Banchero. Unquestionably a dominant college player but I have doubts that his game will translate to the NBA.
  • Very fitting that Wilson, Veesaar, then Trimble were the three guys that led the way tonight. The other peripheral players made massive contributions in small doses, but I think the aforementioned trio being the main producers is the key to success.

Gonna take a lot of charge calls to go our way to make up for that

Bobby Jones at d00k in 1974. Hit a lay-up and didn’t stop running until he reached the locker room. Heels won 73-71.

Ah yes, that was before my time but I’ve seen the replay a million times lol. Not sure how I forgot that one.

Looks like the last play was supposed to go to Caleb as the first option on the drive by Dixon. You can see him cut to the basket and put his hand up when Dixon made the pass to Trimble. Dixon probably could have lobbed it up to Caleb, too. Three dook players had collapsed on Dixon in the lane and Caleb was wide open cutting to the basket. Not that it matters now, but thought it was interesting how it played out.

Caleb was a bit late there because he and Henri had a bit of confusion out front. I think Dixon already had Trimble in sight when Caleb suddenly enters the picture. I don't think Caleb was the primary option at all. The only reason it's open is because the Dukie inexplicably left him to go triple team the ball -- it was definitely not a planned rotation. Anyway, Caleb was supposed to dive to pull the weakside in and all the pass to Seth. You can tell that Caleb knows where the ball is supposed to be going, since he didn't try to catch it himself.

So Dixon was looking for Seth the whole time and had him in sight. He could have dumped it down to Caleb but it's a bit risky to suddenly change targets in that situation. I'm fine with it going all the way through.

Your position on what Dixon was looking for contradicts Seth’s version of what Dixon was looking for. He said it was designed to go to either of the bigs but once Dixon drove, the D collapsed and he made the right read.

Personally after watching the glorious replay a zillion times I thought there was a lob opportunity to Caleb if he floated it high enough. Would've been sick but it’s better that he didn’t since it would’ve meant a few more seconds on the clock.

No. Give Caleb Wilson a year or two to bulk up and develop a reliable three, and he'll surpass Boozer. Caleb still looks like a kid. Once he's a grown-ass man, he'll be really, really good at the next level.
I don't think this is correct. Caleb projects as a wing at the next level, which he knows and that's why he's been working on his three point jumper all year (it's obvious). He just isn't physical enough. Like 'Tawn -- really quick off the floor but not the strongest guy. 'Tawn was mostly a 3, maybe 3/4 in the league. And since he projects as a three, his jumper is vital and it's not there yet.

Boozer, by contrast, can play 4 for sure and he might even project as a five in today's league. So that makes him relatively more valuable, because there are a lot more good wings in the league than PF.

They are both going to be stars, though remember -- the league is full of young guys who can really play. Deepest talent pool in the NBA ever. And there are guys coming out with them who are also fabulous.

I could be wrong, of course, but I think that Caleb has established himself as the #4 prospect. It's weird -- the top 3 are still fluid, and Caleb isn't quite there with them, but Caleb is much higher than #5. So sometimes in the draft we know who is number 1 months or years out. This year we might know the #4 pick farther out.
