Going into that season, dook had won 15 of the last 17 games since the beginning of the 1998-99 season and we all know what had taken place over those years. This game announced that Carolina, under Roy, was really back and that the upcoming years would be far better than the previous few had been.

After that, i think you have an assortment of games that are great but don't quite have the grativas of those 4 games. Here's a brief list (in chronological order)...

1986 Opening of the Dean Dome
1989 ACC Title game
"Bloody Montross" in 1992
The "Double Blowout" in 1998 (including the greatest missed dunk of all time)
The "Bloody Felton" game in 2003
2006 at dook when Hansbrough & Co upset the dookies in JJ Redick's last home game
The "Bloody Hansbrough" game in 2007

I think the "Seth Trimble Game" is likely among these games (albeit near the bottom for me). For these, I think where you were in life when they happened likely has a significant impact on how important they are to you (for me, Bloody Montross and the 1998 game are the most treasured).

The Forte game in Cameron was another particularly enjoyable one.

I was getting ready to play golf. We got down 8 and my group left and I stayed. It was fun catching up to them 30 mins later and saying, "you ain't going to believe this shit .... "

i agree with you fwiw just don't think banchero is a great comparison as he's a very good NBA player. boozer seems like he's kind of at his ceiling already and even though he's got a big, well developed body he's not an elite run and jump guy. a lot of his game seems dependent on his bulk and strength and that's not gonna work as well at the next level with bigger, stronger dudes everywhere.

as far as dookies go he kinda reminds me of a taller jabari parker. big, thick boy with a lot of skills but doesn't have elite athleticism.

I see more Kevin Love in Boozer than anyone I can think of at the moment. I think he’s going to have a long career, just maybe not at an All NBA level.

I friend I grew up with was at that game. (I watched it from the Common Room in Hinton James Dorm.) And somewhere in the last minute of play, Carolina fans were getting up and walking out of Carmichael. My friend stood up and started screaming, "It ain't over yet! SIT DOWN!" But later, he admitted he was just talking [slang term for human feces] because he was so mad that Carolina was about to lose at home to a mediocre Duke Team.

There were plenty heading out and I was one. I just couldn't, though. I made it to the little landing where the door nearest the street by Woolen was on my way to the Student Union and decided that I could make it to the bitter end. It got sweeter.

I am in concert with you on the top 4. The 1998 Double Blowout, particularly b/c of the greatest missed dunk of all time (although it was followed up by an offensive rebound and a 3, which was technically, though not dramatically, better than 2) misses my cut I can't say why, but of course that one stays with me. The 8 in 17 game is, as you say, the granddaddy, the only possible diminishment being the "where you were in life when it happened" element (I was 8 years old). And yet I can't bring myself to demote the Marvin Williams putback game in favor of last night. Dang, looks like I've got 5 in my top 4. Somewhat similarly, it's like that with Dead shows too...

I think people forget how big the 1989 ACC Championship game was. For me, that is definitely above last night's game in all-time rivalry rankings.

Got to thinking back about the “8 points in 17 seconds” win…

A couple of things…apparently there was a court-storming that night that had to be cleared.

And…

There were also some stormer injuries — this time apparently that actually happened.
