Biorhythms for First Round NCAAT Game vs VCU: 6:50 Start

Not only does momentum not exist, sports books use momentum to take money from gamblers who believe in it. So GFY, caveman.

It’s real —— if the players believe it’s real.

Re: missed free throws at the end of the game. One contributing factor could be that our guys shooting free throws were totally gassed because Hubert has always struggled to figure out how to use the bench and have some sort of rotation, and that was very apparent in the second half today.

That's been a problem for 5 years, too.

Wretched 7 years of Carolina basketball. Only a nice tourney run in 22 and a regular season in 24 to show for it.

You're probably not going to like hearing this, but momentum doesn't actually exist in the way you suggest.
JFC...fine we stopped attacking on offense, which was working very well, and that allowed VCU to get back into the game and ultimately win....happy? That's inept coaching.

It’s the fact that we play great when we’re concentrating that gets me. And the fact that these teams can’t hold their concentration (especially with a big lead) is coaching, plain and simple. You have to be able to inbound the ball at the end of a game. Period, no excuses. You have to be able to get a shot up at the end of the game before the shot clock. That’s coaching plain and simple.

WTH did we start playing stall ball with 9mins left

Stay aggressive

I’ve been on the side of keeping Hubert another year but that game honestly makes me rethink that

One important notion that should be addressed is that in some cases (e.g., Gilovich et al., 1985), the failure to detect serial dependency in sports data has been interpreted as an absence of the momentum phenomenon itself. In other words, some researchers within the domain of judgment and decision-making (JDM) concluded that momentum-based behaviors and beliefs may be merely attributed to misconceptions and biases (e.g., Ayton & Fischer, 2004; Tversky & Gilovich, 1989). Such notions were later challenged after realizing that initial success in a competitive environment elicits a variety of behavioral responses; while these behaviors may indeed be associated with enhanced performance, they do not automatically lead to subsequent success (Attali, 2013; Csapo et al., 2015; Neiman & Loewenstein, 2011).
An additional line of studies examined how athletes experience momentum (e.g., Avugos et al., 2013; Miller & Weinberg, 1991), how the environment detects such momentum (e.g., Burke & Burke, 1999; Furley & Schweizer, 2016; Morgulev et al., 2020c), and how coaches and the opponents respond to it (e.g., Csapo & Raab, 2014; Mace et al., 1992; Moesch & Apitzsch, 2012). The literature indicates that the feelings and behaviors that emerge in a state of momentum, combined with the belief in its boosting effect, are all theoretically grounded phenomena; recent studies that were able to apply advanced statistical methods on large datasets of professional elite-level sports providing convincing evidence that the success-breeds-success effect does exist (Cohen-Zada et al., 2017; Meier et al., 2020; Page & Coates, 2017; Zhao & Zhang, 2023).
