Biorhythms for Kansas at Carolina, 7 pm tip.

This is ignoring the context of what this season likely means for Hubert. Simply put, this needs to be roughly a top 15-type team or he's probably fired (and not unreasonably so). And also simply put, Hubert has lost far too many of these meaningful non-conference games. I think if we lose this game I would handicap the chances of Hubert getting fired after this season at somewhere around 60%+. because it just gets pretty hard to figure out how we get to being a top 15-type team if we can't win this game. Not impossible by any means - but this is probably, like, our 8th or 9th hardest game of the season. And it will case negative energy over the program for basically the rest of November if we lose this game.

Again, if any game this early could ever be described as a "must not lose" game, this is it.

What the season means for Hubert and fans and what this team can/cannot achieve in reality are two different things

I don't think there is much impact on the latter from a single game on November 7. It's just not the way sports have ever worked

Either this team will come together and be good, or it won't. Tonight is a good indicator of that, certainly. But that is all

I never view November games as important. It’s college basketball getting started again. Champions classic and little tournaments. It’s fun. Teams are going to change a lot over the next 4 months. I love it that KU and UNC are playing to kick off the season.

Seems like it’s different for UNC fans right now. There’s Kansas fans that are gonna overreact to this game too because of the last 2 seasons. I’m just hoping for an entertaining game (and a KU dub). Rock Chalk!
Kansas beat Duke last year at the beginning of the season. Kansas went on to have the worst season of Bill Self’s tenure. Duke made the F4.

I understand the importance of this game but I wouldn’t read too much into it unless it is a blowout in either direction.

It is not fatal to Hubert to lose and it will not guaranty anything if he wins, but it puts so much more pressure on the other games if he does lose this one.

This is what I posted in September when the full schedule was released...

"That Kansas game is going to be huge for our season - at least in terms of the fan base.

If we win that game, it'll be a big boost for us in the early season and will be an indication that this team can live up to its potential. If we lose, it's going to be ugly as the complaints about HD will get really loud and it'll be almost 3 weeks before we play another non-cupcake team that could take the edge off those complaints.

That might be the most important regular season game we've played under HD."

I still stand by this comment (except for the last line, the 2022 game at dook is still more important). This is going to be the game that gives us the first real indication of how this season will go and, without another good opponent for 20 days, it will very much set the tone for how many perceive this team going forward.

Here's to winning and making it a great start to the season!

I like my meaningful November game over Thanksgiving.
This year: Michigan St on Thanksgiving Nov 27.
I'll draw my petty conclusions on how this season might go there and then. Until then:
UNC 82
KU 77
