Welp. UNC completely out of sorts. Down 12 after missing about 10 straight shots on some wild play.

Defense a no-show in the post and bigs are a disaster one offensive end so far as well. The early physical play seems to have fired up Dayton and gotten UNC playing like they have never practiced before.

Annnnd Withers fouls on a forced three.

39-25 Dayton 4:42 to go
Great drive by RJ

But Dayton hitting everything now

Elliot out of control with at least his fifth TO on the travel. Heels down 42-28 going into final tv timeout of the half and Dayton will have the ball again.

This team is basically built to outsocre the opponent but tonight so far have gone ice-cold and turnover prone.

Dayton 6-14 for three, UNC 2-9(?) — per box score but I think we have made three threes so far, one by RJ to open the game and 2 by Trimble)

Can’t stay up anymore but not looking good. Hope I’m pleasantly surprised when I check the score tomorrow morning.

Cadeau misses two FTs — effectively another TO.

Another offensive foul called on Cadeau looks weak but he is pushing off in the air.

Dayton hits a three and goes up 17.

47-30 Dayton.

Cadeau to line again after third foul on Cheeks. 47-32 Dayton 2:10 to go.

51-33

Withers misses a three

They brick a three but still Tar Heels down 18.

UNC gave up 19 points off of 12 turnovers.

Not sure I have it in me to stay up for a comeback attempt.

Not sure what is going on with Cadeau but he’s playing like a total headcase tonight. Wound up with 3, but could’ve been 4 offensive fouls on elbows and odd grabbings of the opponents. He could’ve hurt that kid when they were both airborn and Cadeau spun him around for no apparent reason. I get that Dayton is guarding physically and playing very aggressive but EC started this way from the jump.

This, among about a dozen other problems as a team in that first half.

Going into second half, Cadeau, Davis and Trimble each has 2 fouls.

At 8:05 left in the half, game was 23-22 Dayton. Heels lost 28-11 in the final 8 minutes of the half, kick-started by three straight open threes and a layup hit by Dayton off two turnovers and a wild missed shot by Withers. Meanwhile, UNC only hit two field goals in the final 8 minutes of the half, the rest of the scoring was from the line

After the 8-minute mark:

Turnover - RJ (offensive foul leg kick)
Turnover - Withers
Missed Layup - Withers
2-2 FTs - Cadeau
1-2 FT - Withers
Missed three (blocked) - Trimble
Layup & 1-1 FT - RJ
Turnover - Cadeau
Layup - Jackson
0-2 FT - Cadeau
Turnover - Cadeau (offensive foul)
2-2 FT - Cadeau
1-2 FT - RJ
Missed Three - Cadeau
Missed Three - Withers

Heels go down 21 at start of second half after an opening flurry but several missed opportunities off turnovers.

Cadeau with three fouls dives after a loose ball and commits his fourth foul.

Cadeau out, Jackson in, Dayton has the ball up 17.

Heels are playing hard but still wild. Second straight possession no Tar Heel could grab a loose board and Dayton will get another second shot opportunity after the break.

Hard to know how to calm them but maintain the intensity it will take to come back.

Heels staring at a very tough three days if they can’t figure this out fast.

RJ hits a three to cut it to 14 but third foul called on Trimble after a rebound taken from Ian.

Dayton gets a three, then Heels hit a three after RJ rebounds his own missed three and finds Ian open.

Frenetic play but Heels are wasting defensive stops by failing to rebound the miss. Dayton up 14.

Uggh. Offensive foul on RJ. His third.

Goaltending call looked wrong but Dayton up 16.

Back to 14 down, just 12:15 to go. (That was a goaltend by Jalen on replay).

63-49 Heels ball, 20 seconds on shot clock due to foul against RJ. TV timeout about 11:49 left.

Plenty of time, but the problem is these Dayton fucks are all over the court and they’re all tough as nails. They’re not going to fold. Heels are going to have to rip it away from them.

Heels need to get the lead under 10 by 8 minute tv timeout to have a chance — need a quality offensive set out of the timeout.
