Got one insider who was a big time Obama operative who says he feels good about things. And anecdotally there are parts of the very conservative area I grew up in that are flying Harris flags where 8+ years ago that would have gotten you socially ostracized. I think the 'RINO' vote is bigger than is being recognized. My entire extended family has switched over the last four cycles since the GOP embrace of idiocy, starting with Palin. Optimistic by nature, but sense a beat down. Will be six beers deep by the time results show - will be the best or worst hangover ever.

Friend of mine's wife is a broadway performer. Apparently a huge group of them went to canvas in Philly. She was utterly blown away by the crowds of people doing canvassing. I'm guessing the crowds have to be pretty fucking big to make such an impression on her.

I think she said they knocked on 2 million doors in PA over the weekend. I also think Musk is bragging about getting 100,000 door knocks per week.

If ground game means anything important, we're going to win. And maybe in the age of social media, it doesn't. But the disparity between the two GOTV operations couldn't be starker. Political scientists are getting a natural experiment to judge just how much difference the ground game actually makes.

Yeah, a lot of signs are there that this is going her way but that's what makes me worry. That so many ignorant chuckle fucks are going to pull the lever for Trump because they think groceries are expensive or whatever reason.

Upvote for chuckle fucks...

That's what makes you worry? You would worry less if we knocked on 100K doors?

I mean, I hear you. You're nervous AF. You're scared of 2016. You can't believe that this race is even close, given the insanity coming from the other side. I'd say that applies to most of us, save possibly our former Trump voters who didn't experience 2016 as horror.

Here's my perspective: this has been a masterful campaign and if campaigns mean anything, we will prevail. And maybe they don't in 2024. Maybe we will never be fully able to compete until we create an alternate reality universe to rival that of conservative media. Maybe bald-faced lies are the new political currency. But we don't know that yet. It would certainly be a departure from what we've seen even in recent years.

And I know it's cold comfort to say, if Trump wins, that "this was destined." I'm not offering it as a palliative for Trump winning. I'm offering it as a reason to doubt he will win.

The chucklefucks are voting for their bigotry. Not their groceries or their gas… and you’ll never convince me otherwise.
On average this is correct. It's well established in social science research.

Let me add, though, that it's not all bigotry. It's also people with authoritarian personalities. Not that they are better, just a bit different (noting that there is a large overlap between these two concepts).

My friend who works in NYC also canvassed in Philly this past weekend.

For what it’s worth, while I share your same fears about today, I am also heartened by that very fear, if that makes sense. In elections I do trust fear and anger and anxiety over hope and love and all that. While I appreciate that Harris and Walz have made a concerted effort to make the campaign about joy, underneath that there is a strong sense of the danger we face, which drives our fear and rage. I think that’s why so many folks are out there knocking on doors trying to drive out the vote (as Superific’s story about Philly, and as I pointed out on another thread about the two Dem canvassers all the way out in freaking Pamlico County knocking on doors).

People on our side appear scared shitless and mad as hell about half our population being relegated to second class citizenry and the notion of living under dictatorship, and that’s exactly how I want us to be. Nothing taken for granted (like 2016).
