Everybody has a plan until they get punched in the mouth.

Only time will tell. That 4 game gauntlet early this season vs traditional powerhouses Kansas, Mi. state, Kentucky Georgetown will tell the tale.
And soon after, we get Ohio St. If we don’t get punched in the mouth in those 5 games we’ll be fine for the year. We will know more by Dec. 20

Georgetown hasn’t been good for quite awhile now.

I’d take 2-2 in those 4.

Evans-Trimble-Boga-Wilson-Veesaar has to be better than any lineup they were able to play last year

Should be a better defensive and rebounding team by default. Caleb Wilson has more upside than Drake or Ian did

I think if a few things go right this team could be pretty good. Not sure they have a super high ceiling but second weekend and top 2-3 in ACC seem within reach

not sure i would be putting much hopes in big man from zona who couldnt crack higher than conf honorable mention in post season awards. we will know what we have shortly so nothing but guesses now.

I see that...but then he is older, stronger, and smarter.

I don’t know how good he’ll be at UNC, but Big 12 honorable mention is a pretty damn good accomplishment.

Yeah, I know all about Georgetown. I said "traditional" powerhouses... not "current" powerhouses. But Gtown should prove more competition than Radford, Central and St Bonnie. Actually, I'd be more afraid of ETSU if Forbes was still the coach there and not at Wake.
And 2-2 would not be a good look. It would be just like the past 3 or 4 Decembers - very mediocre. 2-2 in that stretch and we're probably looking to be on the bubble again. We can't make up a mediocre December in Conference play in Jan. and Feb. the metrics just aren't there - and they haven't been in the ACC for several years. The conference is still down and will continue to be down as long as Carolina is just mediocre in December and constantly on the bubble in early March. Nope, we gotta go 3-1 at least.

No 2-2 would be at least one high quality win which is a better look than recent seasons.

Let's look at the 5 games (including the Georgetown game, and at Ohio st.) 3-2 would be just be "ok" this season. We HAVE to win the home games vs Kansas and Georgetown. And winning only one of the others would just be "ok". I still contend we need to win 2 of the 3 games against UK. M.St. and OhioSt to put us in good stead with the metrics that will determine seeding in the NCAA's. The ACC is not necessarily that great these days and going 2-2 as you say or 2-3 in those 5 games would amount to a harbinger of another mediocre finish in the ACC. If we can go 4-1 - or at the very least 3-2 in that stretch - it will work wonders for us when the committee is considering our seeding, and will be a bellwether for good things to come in the ACC. Just MHO

dook and Louisville will be the high quality opponents in-league. We only play U of L once, in Chapel Hill on February 23. State could be good with Darrion Williams if he reaches for all-star play. We only play them once this season as well...in raleighwood. In fact, the only team that we play twice other than dook is Syracuse. The Cavaliers also have an outside chance to be a good win...they'll have a solid backcourt at any rate. We also only play them in Charlottesville. The Schedule is weird and the rating/ranking system in play these days is not something I am fond of.

2025-26 ACC Opponents
Home & Away:
Duke, Syracuse
Home only: Clemson, Florida State, Louisville, Notre Dame, Pitt, Virginia Tech, Wake Forest
Away only: Cal, Georgia Tech, Miami, NC State, SMU, Stanford, Virginia
Will not play: Boston College

We're going to only have three guaranteed quality win possibilities in the ACC this year. 2-2 early would mean a tense season worrying about the bubble. 3-1 would be much better. 4-0 and we'd be in very good shape.

EC/RJ, Ian, Drake, JWit, Lubin (or maybe JWash to give more height) would be a better lineup that that one, imo. Of course, this is assuming they ran an offense that suited the lineup, which didn't happen a lot last year.

I agree. Losing to UK and KU (even if they beat Mich State) is going to put UNC back into the usual position of not having many high-quality wins, as there aren't a ton once conference play starts.

Exactly. 2-2 in those 4 games in Dec. Will not bode well.
