So per Tar Pit Premium it appears
1. A BOT member, Preyer, initiated contact with Belichick and Offered him the job A NO NO-it was Bubba/Roberts job
2. It worked to UNC advantage-we got him
But in the future NO to the BOT screwing around-so everything skips te BOT and goes to Hans
EDIT The "take " is it is very pro Roberts, Bubba even if reads like micro managing

Good. They deserve to be suspended. That was a humiliating episode for the university. UNC, and those trustees in particular, are extremely fortunate that Bill Belichick was desperate for a job because nobody else in the NFL would give him the time of day, or else that whole ordeal could have been something that completely decimated our football program for years to come. Hell, it still may, I reckon. The role of trustees is to advise and advocate, not go rogue and undermine the chancellor and the athletic director.

There was a post by an insider that I think provided some insight. Basically Preyer worked the BB route while bubba was working traditional candidates. When it became clear BB was really in play Roberts and bubba went hard after him. Not saying Preyer did not get out of his lane but this is for context.

I think the public "sit the fuck down" to the Trustees says a lot about how out of his lane Preyer must have been.

Depending on how long Bill decides to stick around, we might be doing this again in 10 months, so good to get out ahead of it and let the trustees know who runs things.

I gotta say I got a chuckle out of anything decimating the UNC football program. It’s been decimated for a very long time already.

Wasn't he initially keen on keeping mack? or was that someone else?
If you believe the guy in tar pit premium, yes, but as some of mack's antics came to light support faded. As far as BB, if you watch what he is doing, i think he plans on being our head coach a few years. Not acting like a one and doner. I think he sees college football as the way to add to his legacy.

I agree; my one concern is his chump-change but-out.

All the shit that’s going on now in college sports and people are going to get bent out of shape about this? I admit it certainly seems like he violated protocol, but with the wild, Wild West college sports has become it’s just not that big of a deal. You have schools all over the county contacting players who haven’t even entered the portal asking what it would take to get them to transfer. The time for playing by the Marquis of Kingsbury Rules is over if you want to be relevant.

Agree on Chick. I was basing my question on comments mack made. Don't know what to make of the system president's comments. Was it intended solely to prevent legal trouble or did he have other reason's to slap the board?

I meant “buy-out;” “but-out” seems more appropriate.
Yeah. The buyout is a bright red flashing warning sign, IMO. It’s really difficult to understand why 1. UNC would agree to it as it gives the school zero leverage whatsoever, and 2. why Bill would have demanded it be structured that way if he doesn’t have designs on other jobs. Granted, I suppose one could argue that no buyout of any size would be an impediment to any NFL team that truly wanted him, but why make it even easier than it would otherwise be?

I’m obviously hoping and cheering for it to all work out well for us, but I’ve got doubts. Certainly I’ll enjoy the ride as it comes and for however long it lasts, but I’ve also tempered my expectations. Yes, he’s likely the greatest NFL coaching mind of all time, but to me, Occam’s Razor indicates that at 72 years old he’s probably lost a bit off his fastball, and he’s probably not going to enjoy navigating all of the politics, gladhandling, etc that comes with coaching at a university and coaching 18-22 year old kids who are amateurs in some respects when it conveniences the NCAA and professionals in other respects. We shall see.

We will. But my take.
No. 1: UNC did it to close deal. He had the leverage. Regardless we became and have remained the most talked about program in college football.
No.2: Belichick himself was unsure if this would work probably for lots of reasons. Everytime I see him interviewed he is smiling and engaging. I think he is loving UNC which should surprise no one who went there.
My prediction is he coaches 3 to 5 years, retires and lives at Governor's Club and becomes Godfather of UNC football.

I like your take way more than mine. I’d take that all day! Those are some real good points.
