Brett Favre has Parkinson’s

Its extra weird when a professional athlete gets such a disease
Not at all
Though the early symptoms for Parkinson's and Lewy Body Dementia are the same / similar
A good friends Parkinson's diagnosis was just changed (after 3 yrs) to Lewy Body Dementia (5 yrs terminal)

Just how do you equate a multi-millionaire (or a guy who should be a multi-millionaire) with coal miners? Coal mining was the only “good” paying job for poorly educated, low-skilled in much of “coal country.”
Because that is what gtyellowjacket does. He takes contrarian positions based on false equivalencies and a general refusal to infer the obvious. He is the guy that would argue OJ didn't do it.

1. He was an employee put in an unsafe environment so that his bosses can make a lot of money. Farve made a lot more money than coal miners but the coal mine Baron or the NFL owner made a lot more money than all of them.
2. I have sympathy for all those football players that were taking those hits and then later found out that it destroyed their brains. It would take some fairly heartless people to not have sympathy but I guess we found a few.

I certainly have sympathy for them. People should weigh the risk/reward for playing the game but its human nature to think that you won't get the short stick when it comes to brain injuries. I have more sympathy for coal workers who suffer debilitating injuries and didn't have a choice.

I am sure Favre is going to get a good paycheck from the NFL settlement. I know it is all formulaic. Players who get ALS at a fairly young age get the highest payouts. (OU had an all American cornerback from the late '80s who died from ALS a few years ago.)

I have the most sympathy for those who played before they knew of the risks. The worst is for those who played in the era when the NFL was actively hiding the risk.

I don't blame football players for suffering the health consequences of playing football, many of which were not fully understood until recently and/or still aren't fully understood.

It sucks that Brett has Parkinson's. I would not wish it on pretty much anybody. But I find the fact that he chose to reveal his diagnosis where and how he did to be shameful; a blatantly obvious attempt to engender an outpouring of public sympathy to distract from the despicable crimes he committed to the harm of people much poorer and more vulnerable than him. it's always been clear that he's a real POS off the field and this is just further evidence of that.
