Buncombe County and the City of Asheville can choose to house climate immigrants however they see fit. I fail to see what NYC choices have to do with federal government FEMA rules.

Probably nothing. I think he was just making the point that "we", as a country, will spend billions to house non-Americans in expensive NY hotels, while kicking Americans out of hotels.

You’ve been provided the reasons someone would be kicked out of the hotel. It doesn’t appear difficult to maintain eligibility for government provided housing if the person has such a need.

But we as a country are not NYC. I fail to see how North Dakota gets dragged into agreeing with housing immigrants in "fancy" NYC hotels.

riiiiiight. he's definitely not taking anything out of context and he would never criticize people using various forms government assistance in other situations. because he's not a dishonest hypocrite. lmao.

multiple people have shared more information on this thread about the cancelled hotel stays - FEMA is cancelling accommodations for people who are refusing to cooperate with their surveys / follow-up and people who are clearly abusing the system.

i thought y'all were all about accountability and curbing welfare abuses? DOGE? only when it actually suits the narrative?

None of my family and friends were directly impacted. I’m from the foothills not mountains of WNC.

You made a point of noting of my residence in Buckhead, implying I was an out of touch observer. I merely advised, in response, that I grew up in WNC (not 60 years ago) and have a frame of reference of the area and people. I don’t know why that would generate such a hostile response but I guess it’s just par for the course.

It's not the fact of where you once lived. It's that you are spreading lies, and when people who are literally on the ground telling you what is happening, you are refusing to believe them. It's in that context that you noted your prior residence in the area, which matters not at all to what is going on here.

I used to live in Los Angeles, 40 years ago. That does not give me any insight at all as to what is happening with the fires out there. So too with your former residence in North Carolina. It gives you no insight at all.

My hunch is that the majority of folks in this category are already living somewhere else, and are using the hotels for storage or for an occasional stay. That's likely why they aren't submitting an application for continuation. They don't need it because they are already staying elsewhere.

The reason those migrants are in Manhattan is that they were bused there by Abbot and DeSantis. Hmm. Maybe it wasn't a great idea to ship them to the most expensive real estate in the entire country. How this is liberals' fault is beyond me.

Should we add cause and effect to the alarmingly long list of basic concepts you fail to grasp?

Seriously -- have you ever been to a big city? Presumably you've been to Atlanta. When you were there, did you notice the density of the buildings there? The sheer magnitude of the geography that has been built up by decades of construction? Now, think about that, and multiply by 3 because LA is that much bigger.
And then ponder to yourself, "what would be required to fireproof the 8000 square miles that comprises the Atlanta metro area, with the trillions of tons of building materials and the vast quantities of vegetation that I won't even try to estimate"? Would the answer be "several days" or "several years"? And then triple the estimate.

Several days. My God. Even Trump isn't that stupid.
 
I guess I didn’t read everything up to now… so what does all this have to do with fires in California? I understand this is the political pissing match thread pertaining to the fires… but…

Anyway, the politicization - of the Hurricane in WNC and now the fires in California - is beyond the pale. And I believe we all know which side of the aisle chooses to purposefully try to score political points on a catastrophic event.

The same side which voted in the narcissistic arsehole who has an issue with flying flags at half staff because a President has passed away… thinking that it somehow diminishes his inauguration. The nerve of the guy. Piss on him. But if he were on fire, I wouldn’t!

A few days (like for hurricane prep) gives you time to:
Call up the national guard - to prevent looting
Organize law enforcement for traffic control for evacuations
Get shelters prepared and stocked with supplies

Mayor Bass was more concerned with her junket to Africa than bothering with basic prep.

Let’s return to this issue in a few months and see if the local residents are placing medals on the politicians and officials who were in charge.

Victims of fire in California routinely sue everyone and then let the various insurance companies sort it out.

I 100% guaranty City/County will be sued. As will power companies, and anyone with even a tenuous connection to the fires.

Not sure what those complaints will prove other than deep pockets are always probed after fires in California.

I am sure MMQB will show that mistakes were made. That is always the case. Take a look at what caused the airport fire in Orange County a couple of months ago.
