Once again, not even close to a substantive response. Are you going to link something explaining why the current circumstances could have been easily anticipated and dealt with by preventative measures? Or as usual is your source "trust me bro, I'm an expert on everything"?

No one here is saying the authorities did everything right. We are simply saying, wait for this to play out and we have time to fully assess what happened and what could have stopped it. You're the one insisting that you have all the answers already. As usual.
I haven't insisted at all that I have all the answers. You are full of shit on that. I have listed the most basic common sense things that are again, common sense. Not my fault you can't see that.

Well, here is one possible issue:

Again, local issue. The State not only had nothing to do with the reservoir being offline, they’re the ones investigating. No matter how the right wing Trumplicans try to swing it. Newsom - at the State level - had nothing to do with any possible shortcomings.

And the conservatives trying to make some political hay once again with a deadly catastrophic event is beyond the pale. They even do this with mass murders using guns. They spin it all in such a way as to try and make us all believe MORE GUNS are needed.

It doesn’t matter the catastrophe, the pubs are willing to make a mockery of the tragedy to score points with their base. The basest of all humanity.

I don't think MAGA limits its complaints about the California government to the state only, although in fairness I have most of them on ignore so I don't really know what their complaints are.

That said, it wouldn't surprise me in the least if some element of the state bureaucracy had a role in the timing of the repairs and the availability of other water tanks. For example, the California Coastal Commission has huge powers -- it has a say on almost any land that has runoff into the ocean, which is almost all land around here.

I have no idea about all of that. All I know is what I’ve researched online, looking at reliable sources like AP and Reuters.

I do recall an acquaintance from Turkey telling me back in 1990 that the next big war will be over fresh water, not oil. I believed him then. And I have no reason the think otherwise today.

Prior to St. Donald of Mar-a-Lago going "on the record" about making Canada the 51st state, I would have dismissed "fresh water wars" as being nonsense and satirically asked if this meant the US was going to invade Canada. But now that Vlad "the Ras" Putin's personal hand-puppet has been restored to his throne, "fresh water wars" seems like a depressingly likely, even if entirely fictitious, causa bella.

I posted this on the "Meanwhile On Fox News" thread, but it's completely applicable here as well.

Failed comedian Gutless Greg Gutfeld and the ever-sophomoric Jesse Watters assert to their viewers that the CA wildfires situation is due to a DEI hire as fire chief - a claim so ridiculous that Jessica Tarlov jumps in to be the voice of reason:

Probably nothing. I think he was just making the point that "we", as a country, will spend billions to house non-Americans in expensive NY hotels, while kicking Americans out of hotels.
How much was spent to bus them to NY?

His laughing at the end says it all. This is all a game to the right wingers, especially the Fox “news” hosts. Our country is rotting, and yahoos like this turd and Watters can’t get enough of it. Fuck those guys.

Not trying to trivialize or diminish anyone's loss, but it seems J. J. Redick's rental home in Los Angelos burned down. I didn't even know he was the head coach of the Lakers. I put this in the fire politics thread rather than the fire news thread not because it is inherently political, but just on the chance that some on this board may not have consistantly fond memories of his time at Duke.

"DEI" and "woke" is the race-card for fragile, insecure, mediocre white men.

I honestly have no idea what it cost. I can safely say that it was significantly less than putting them up in New York hotel rooms for any amount of time.
Which came first, the bus ride or the hotel stay?

My understanding is they were not being housed in hotels until the bus loads arrived.

I believe the hotels are reactionary, not normal policy.

While a lot of the rage against DEI is bullshit, the LAFD Assistant Chief made a head-scratching comment when pressed if the best people were being hired for the job:

“Am I able to carry your husband out of a fire? He got himself in the wrong place if I have to carry him out of a fire.”

Big oof.
