I’m just going to go ahead and tell it. My daughter came to work with me when Covid began. At that point I was driving a “fairly reliable” 1985 F150
She had me change my bookkeeper and after 6 months the new guy had a zoom call with me. Between repairs and gas I was spending @$1,200 a month!?!
Long story short my daughter and I went to Mark Jacobson next week and I bought a RAV4 off the truck and got the zero interest on I think @35-36K . This month is the last payment and my auto expenses for the last year are less than $50.

Any reason you're including gas $ with the f-150 but not the RAV?

I hope that $50 was for an oil change ;)
 
It is amazing how cheap Kia is able to sell all these 3 row SUVs with a lot of features

Where is the trade off? Are the engines still going to break?
 
They still have issues with catastrophic failures and electrical gremlins at higher rates than Toyota and Honda. Additionally, you’ll find more complaints about poor dealership experiences with Kia Hyundai than just about any, other than stellantis, and they’ll void that amazing warranty quickly if you don’t have stellar maintenance documentation. Their turbo engines are suppose to be shit, unless you’re a perfect with the upkeep, and even then it’s a shoulder shrug. Their resale also tends to tank, quickly.

Mind you, this is my impression from dozens of hours researching vehicles over the last 12-15 months. This impression gets over indexed on anecdotes, and while there are undoubtedly more Kia Hyundai horror stories than most car makers, the likelihood is we’re talking about maybe 5-10% in a 5year ownership window.
But might be a better deal if you're just leasing one every 3 years.

About every 5 years or so we hear how Hyundai/Kia has turned the corner only for them to recall a bunch of engines from the previous 5

That type of disposable/replaceable vehicle is not my cup of tea at all. But I get it for those who just want something cheap or temporary
 
She hasn’t complained one bit about downgrading from an RX to a Telluride, while saving several thousand over the life of the lease.

Lexus doesn't lease well at all. Always a cheaper or better equivalent

The Lexus will be just as good when you turn it in as the day you got it and the new model will barely be an upgrade
 
my dad has a rav4. unless @SmilingJack drives a lot he's probably spending about a hundred bucks a month on gas. if that.
Yep the truck with the 8cyl was getting @8 mpg the RAV4 is getting 29 around town and 34 on the highway. I do put a lot of miles on it for work I'm at @75,000 miles in 4 years. I forgot about putting new tires on it last year so $550 is what I spent on parts & repairs.
 
I’ve got a 2019 BMW X3 xdrive. I bought it new. So in 6 years only unscheduled thing was a plastic piece in coolant system. It spilled coolant as you were going down road. I got it replaced with aluminum. It was expensive, but BMW’s are.
 
Love my Silverado 1500. Wife loves her Pilot, fwiw..
My son in law owns some Meineke stores. He says Toyota and Honda are the way to go. I got a good deal on my 1500 as a pre-owned lease vehicle from a company my brother worked for. Probably be my last full size pickup. The sticker prices are shocking.
 
IIRC, this is replacing an F-Type which followed an S2000?
Still have the s2000. Trying to decide what to do with it. 2006 with only 61k miles and in great shape. It's such a fun car but I keep it under covers most the time.

What color? Do you have OEM hardtop? If you ever decide to sell it I’d be interested 👀

Oh, I forgot you had a 2.2. That little extra torque is a big advantage. I assume it’s stock? If so, trust me on this - Keep it. I’m a Honda fanatic and follow auction prices on a lot of the Honda classics. I think the value of the S2000 is going to soar in the next few years. It’s gone up and down over the last decade but I really think the high revving NA sports cars are going to increase in value with all the hybrid and turbo boosted cars on the market. That immediate thrust is great, but there’s really nothing like the wail of an engine hitting 8000+ rpm. I’ve recently seen a few mid-late 90’s Integra Type R selling for $40-50k. Those were a fucking hoot, but not half the car of the S2000. The S2000 is pure driving joy. I kick myself on a regular for not buying one before they were discontinued. Almost everyone I’ve come across in the years since has been heavily modified. Stupid kids. Next to an early model NSX, there really is not a more desirable Honda than an S2000.

Stock Carolina (laguna) blue. Only thing non stock is a better stereo with subwoofer in the trunk.

And I have the original shitty amp and speakers it someone really wants them.

On a serious note, it is nice having cars that appreciate

But unless you still drive and enjoy, too much of a hassle to hold imo
 
I say that as I'm still holding a 2005 RSX-S that I barely drive. And still need to sell a 2005 Accord that doesn't get driven

Definitely plan on replacing those two with a S2K or E36/E46 M3 at some point
