The frustrating thing with the Panthers this year is that they're just good enough to be competitive with most teams and have a chance to win and maybe make a real run at the playoffs, but they also have no room or margin for error and they're not consistent - they'll beat a good team like the Packers and then blow a game against a team like lowly New Orleans. Given where they were predicted to finish pre-season I'll take it, but whether Young can get them to the next level remains dubious, imo.

I like Canales but I really hate that decision to accept the penalty and go for 2. Just take the extra point in that situation. So frustrating.
That was just idiotic. It was idiotic generally speaking, but even more idiotic considering our struggles on 2-point conversions (and just getting it into the endzone on short yardage in general) this season.

Young is just not consistent enough to be a starting QB in the NFL.

And why try a field goal from 50 plus yards when you're down by 11 with less than 3 minutes to play?

I get the FG attempt. Fitzgerald has shown he can hit that, and you want to take those points when you can get them there to make it a one-score game.

The lack of a defensive holding call on Bryce’s 4th q interception was a big missed call, but bad offensive night for the Panthers.

After the first half he played, I hate Jaycee Horn couldn’t play in the 2nd half.

Can somebody explain why Dowdle and Hubbard rushed only 9 times combined? They did have 8 receptions but that is not many touches overall and the two averaged 6.0 yards rushing per carry. Did Canales get too cute by passing so much? Would seem like the Panthers would have leaned on the running game against an average 49ers defense.

That game was a coaching failure first and foremost

But also Bryce isn't a good NFL quarterback

Game had a weird feel to it. It was like the Panthers got behind early from the 49er’s opening TD drive and just totally went away from the run game after that.

Granted I think a good chunk of the passes were bubble screen type designs that were essentially run plays.

And then to run a pass play to the back of the end zone after the penalty? Is that play any easier from the 1 1/2 than the 3? Just try to pound the ball in or roll Young out with an option to run it in (if he would dare to)

Yep bad play call on that 2 point try.

And Bryce once again is not ready for prime time. I don’t believe he is processing the plays fast enough. He may get there one day as Darnold and Mayfield are good examples of QB’s that needed a few years until they were able to make good and fast decisions. Unfortunately the Panthers (nor most any NFL team) can wait years for a 1st round pick to get good.
