For my money, Chapel Hill/Carrboro’s greatest buskers and among the Top Ten local bands of all-time.

The Chicken Wire Band Boys Brothers.

Treasured one-of-a-kind Tar Heel Tee. Bought it from a fireman outside a football game 20-25 years ago. I heard that they didn’t have permission to use the ram and had to cease selling.

Glad I got one. Sometimes I can still wear it too.

In late October/early November of 1977 a new kind of pit preacher visited. Far more creative than the likes of Brother Jedd, Stephen the Prophet was clad in robes and proclaimed a new apocalypse and a range of preparations needed by one and all.

The BleeckerBuilding in downtown Carrboro, was built almost single-handedly by Ted Bleecker over the course of 7 years in the early 2000s. Shaped like an arrowhead to fit the space, Bleecker described it as “a place you can be absolutely free in, that was my idea.” It housed artist work spaces and a gallery. Bleecker died not long after the building’s completion. It later housed Fleet Feet’s corporate headquarters, Kalisher gallery and offices, and now Aura Technologies, a DOD contractor.

Learn more here: Staking his claim --- I remember that before Bleecker built his building that there was a lone tree in that spot where men who were only part-time employed would wait to be hired for "incidental labor." Did any of y'all know Ted Bleecker?

Talked to him a time or two when he was building it. Didn't really know him.

I remember getting fried chicken from KFC and eating it under that tree back in the early 70s.

Some friends of mine literally made off with a lifesize Colonel Sanders statue that was inside that KFC. Pre-Football game crowd inside and they just carried it off.

Dan Coleman. A friend worked with him I don't remember where. Met him at a couple parties or what not. Interesting fellow.
