Yep, and the older you get, it's so much more taxing. I try to do more earlier because I simply do not have the energy of someone 10 or 15 years younger than myself.

I dont mind it - but I am not yet 50, and I know once my kid is gone from the home it will definitely not be the same. But 6 more years until that's a reality. Honestly the thing I hate most is decorating the tree.

But there is something so peaceful about it being later in the night, the other house lights are off and it's only the warm glow of Christmas lights inside....that's something I love.

I hate christmas with a fiery burning passion.

BUT

I feel the same way about the tree. It's comforting.

I'm pretty sure that once the current administration detected the Isle of Misfit Toys headed towards DC, they executed the "Trump Double-Tap" and those asylum seekers ceased to be a problem.
 
My Grinchy list of Christmas movies I strongly dislike:
  • The Polar Express: What am I watching here? What sin have I committed to deserve to be trapped in this soulless plasticy dystopian nightmare?
  • The Jim Carrey Grinch: Way to go, ruin a classic Dr Seus story so you can feed Jim Carrey's ego and let him take a great big overacting shit on the story. (I feel the same way about the Mike Meyer's Cat in the Hat, fwiw).
  • Home Alone, in all it's incarnations: Am I the only one who can see that Kevin is a fucking sadist?, and we're being asked to laugh along as he LITERALLY tortures those two thieves? I mean am I taking crazy pills?
  • Muppet Christmas Carol: I'm sorry. it's boring. I LOVE the Muppets, I'm on record saying Muppet Treasure Island is top two best movie ever. But I can't even make it though Muppet Christmas Carol. I think the difference is Muppet Treasure Island was a straight up retelling plus Muppet Hijinks, and Muppet Christmas Carol is just a straight up retelling, no hijinks. There's no value add there.
My less Grinchy list of Christmas movies I love:
  • A Christmas Story
  • Christmas Vacation
  • That cartoon with the mouse, you know the one I mean
  • Miracle on 34th Street
  • Bad Santa

Nice. My grinchy side appreciates that list.

Christmas movies I don't like:
  • Grinch. I didn't see it until I was an adult, and I thought it was stupid. Maybe if there was some nostalgia I would like it.
  • A Christmas Story. I liked it the first time I saw it, but it got old real fast. I get the joke, but it isn't funny. It is WAY over-hyped.
  • The lesser-known Rankin-Bass stop motion stuff. I suppose this is because I don’t have many childhood memories of them and they aren’t inherently good movies. Many of them are too contrived.
  • Jim Carey Scrooge. It looked weird and it focused more on visual effects than on the story. No heart.
Movies I loved:
  • Miracle on 34th Street. Both versions get me every time.
  • It’s a Wonderful Life. Most of it is pretty dark, and I like that. The ending is a giant bowl of mac and cheese, not bad for Christmas.
  • Christmas Carol. My wife likes the Kelsey Grammer one, so it has kind of turned into a tradition. I like the older ones.
  • Planes, Trains, and Automobiles. Technically Thanksgiving, but I watch it at Christmas. Great movie. Martin and Carey are awesome. Love it.
  • Elf. It is a new classic.

Strong "Loved" list. I agree straight down the line.

I grew up on all the stop motion stuff. I'm in a weird ambivalent place there, caught between the nostalgia and the uncanny valleyness and weird plot lines. I don;t hate them and it's fun to see snippets of them, but I do have a hard time settling down to watch any of the complete episodes.

OTOH, I love the Grinch (and all things "original" Dr Seus) and will watch it every time it comes on. I think that's why the Jim Carrey/Mike Myers versions grate on me, because I love the originals so much.
