Problem is he’s not far from the truth of the matter if you listen to the entire quote (of course the difference between lol and UNC nothwithstanding). But he’s right in terms of players choosing a particular coach and NIL bag as opposed to choosing a University and their “history”. If you don’t want to play for Mark Pope and the NIL bag is better for you at let’s say Memphis… there’s no reason to choose UK just because they’re a “blue blood”.

And of course if Cadeau or Captain Jack didn’t want to stay with Hubert and the NIL bag$ were better at St John’s and Michigan… all the Franklin Streets, Banners and MJ “aura” in Chapel Hill didn’t amount to squat.

It’s a different world out there in the wild Wild West of college basketball now.

If we pull in Coach A to replace Hubert, and LOLState pulls in Coach X,Y or Z - but their NIL bag is bigger - a player may choose Rawlee because the Carolina mystique and aura may not be enough to sway them.

Tough to admit, but Pitino may have something here. He’s a lot of things but he’s not a dumbass. That man is shrewd.

I would have expected a better turnout from the aggrieved NC State fans.
