My son is a Bama fan for some reason and has taken all the joy out of watching Bama get their ass kicked
I was at Wisconsin early 70s In the dorm we would watch other games
There was guy on the floor that would practically cry he did not go to Bama
The Cheerleaders

Wait. Wait.

Aren’t you a Miami fan?

And you just said Go Noles?

If State or Duke beat Bama, I definitely wouldn’t be cheering them on.
My fandom is convoluted as hell, lol.

I was raised as a Hurricane fan, and to this day they’re my favorite team. Started following them when I was about 8 years old, which would’ve been 1981. They won their first title when I was 10.

I went to UF for undergrad, and among SEC teams I root for UF. But I’m loathe to root for anything SEC-related.

I went to grad school at FSU, and outside of Miami, they are my #2 favorite. Also, given that this game was against SEC mainstay Alabama, it bolsters my fandom for FSU.

That is convoluted. Maybe you go for another degree at UCF and/or South Florida to completely cover the state.

True story:

I also became a UNC fan around the time I was 8 or 9.

My mom married a dude whose last name was “Duke.” We had a terse relationship at first, which resulted in me picking some teams in direct opposition to those he liked. Obviously he was a Duke fan…and so I became a UNC fan.

Can you imagine someone being a Carolina/State/dook fan?

That's a crazy combination of schools to cheer for.
It’s all a matter of perspective. Also, it helped that during those years, Miami, YF, and FSU were each in different conferences.

If my family had the money, I’d have gone to UM and would’ve never had reason to root for UF or FSU.

But given that we didn’t have an extra 200k for me to attend UM, I went to state schools.

We lived in/around Gainesville throughout my high school years, and so it made sense for me to attend UF—despite the fact that I hated the Gators. But because I was then attending the school—and because they happened to be real fucking good in football, baseball, and to a lesser degree basketball—I of course went to games when I could and at least became a moderate fan whenever they played other SEC foes.

FSU was a little tougher to root for, given the bad blood between them and Miami. But my grad school experience there was fantastic, and I’ve got several life-long friends who I attended games with.
