Gotcha. Makes sense.
And I pointed it out at the time and it is kind of ridiculous, but ND giving up 14 points to Stanford in the fourth quarter of a blowout could have been used against the Irish by certain committee members. It was the last chance for ND to impress and could not cover against the woeful Cardinal.

Because reality is a thing you should consider when advancing an argument?
Reality is the SEC/Big10 controls the shots and they are not even a little bit worried about a lawsuit.

Moreover, antitrust law does not require participation trophies. Nor does it require superior competitors to wear ankle weights so that everything is equal.

At some point, there is going to be an exclusive league for college football and the outs are not going to have a seat at the table. As is, JMU and Tulane being in the playoffs is a joke.

If you have a 68 team tournament, you can give some autobids. When you have just 12 teams, you shouldn’t be giving autobids.

But it does require reasonable access to all levels of participation and the SEC/B1G is certainly concerned about a lawsuit over that issue. If they weren't, they'd have already gone straight "top 12 teams (by how we determine those teams) make the playoffs".

But they will eventually get around that by breaking away from the ACC/Big12/G5 and forming their own tier of competition.

Man you reply fast. Got to give me some time to edit.

Anyway, your last paragraph is hard to reconcile with your first paragraph.

It seems like we ultimately agree, even if we disagree in the current system.

The ACC GOR is currently holding up the SEC/B1G from their eventual plans of world domination, but FSU & Clemson have put a definite time limit on that problem and the SEC/B1G will soon reign supreme.

In other CFB news...

CFB is going to have to put in place a better operational calendar so that the bowls/playoffs, coaching changes, and the transfer portal aren't all happening simultaneously. It's a bad system and needs to get fixed so that we can get through one thing before the next takes over.

Going into the portal without a coach is a program tanking move.

Iowa State and Kansas State played their bowl game in Dublin. They should be excused from playing another one. In fact, all bowl games should be moved to the first game of the season when fans still care.

I cannot WAIT for Oregon to beat the absolute dog shit out of James Madison
I just think the group of 5 teams in the playoffs is silly
That can't happen because the ACC & Big12 won't agree to it. It also can't happen because the G5 would file suit for lack of reasonable access to the CFP.

This is why the SEC & B1G will eventually raid the ACC & (maybe) the Big12 again and then break away to form a new tier of teams in a "national conference" that doesn't have to worry about the remainder ACC/Big12 plus G5 schools.
That is what needs to happen. The Power 4 schools need to have their own league for football with divisions and playoffs like the NFL.

Just give us 4 good Bowl games on New Year’s Day (and on NYE)
Rose, Sugar, Orange and Cotton.
I’m old school. Just give me some high caliber college football on New Years in those classic bowl games and I’ll be happy.
And the fact that they’ll all be playing for something other than bragging rights all the mo’ better.

I "guess" one big boogeyman is that you want to get your portal guys the day before spring class starts-so they are with the team several months before the season

Agreed. Seems like the most logical and reasonable course of action (not that college sports is guided by logic or reason, but greed and power) would be to separate football from all other sports and have 4 or 5 regional conferences just for football and those teams would be the only ones to make the playoffs each year. It would restore regional rivalries and would likely be less expensive as teams wouldn't have to travel halfway or all the way across the country (see Stanford and Cal) to play conference football games. All other sports, including basketball, could stay in existing conferences.

Having said that I seriously doubt it will happen, as the SEC and Big 10 will likely just take the remaining teams they want from the ACC and Big 12 and either break away from the NCAA entirely or force the NCAA to accept whatever football (and probably basketball) system they want.

I've been thinking about it and I'm thinking that getting players to transfer before the spring semester is going to eventually be the cost that gets paid to restore a little sanity to the process.

It's certainly less than optimal, but there's just no way to have a calendar that works if you want players to transfer to new schools by early-to-mid January unless the transfer portal is simultaneous with the CFP and coaching changes.

One adjustment that could be made is to recognize that at the highest levels players are athletes first and students second and make summers mandatory and have "summer practice" that runs for a month in late May through June.

Brillant!
