I looked at scores mid afternoon and saw SC was up 30-3 at the half. I figured it was an espn glitch so I went to cbs and by god they claimed the same! I spent a little time fiddling around in the shop and then checked scores on cbs and SC was reportedly down 30-31. So I went to espn to make sure cbs wasn’t in a glitch.

I think ol Shane is a pretty good Xs and Os coach but my understanding is he is not an ace recruiter. That is an almost impossible barrier in the conference that has had the most players picked in the first round in 14 of the last 15 drafts. As a Mississippi State fan you appreciate those unique years when a Mike Leach changes your expectations but those guys are few and far between and Shane is not one of them.

I saw that live. Makes you wonder what that guy does when there are no cameras.
The massive presence of these guys on the sidelines, over the coach's shoulder, etc. is a massive waste of taxpayer money. i hope to god they are off duty being hired by the boosters.

I'm pretty angry at our sorry ass coach and his highway robbery, but I'm not prepping to assault the guy or anything.

You know Duke will be favored by 4 or so, right? Duke has played light years better than UNC this year.

Anything can happen in a rivalry game, but it is extremely unlikely this UNC team would “kill” anyone.
We've quit
.we were favored by 5 last night and never even tried

Many SCAR fans, my dad included, consider Shane an excellent recruiter, but poor coach.

Virginia is also much better than UNC.

Predicting how Duke will play against UNC based on games against ok teams like Virginia or Connecticut is a mistake. Duke has not struggled with teams of the Elon quality.

James Madison, North Texas, Tulane and Houston are all in the top 25. I don't think they are really one of the top 25 teams in the country, though. Just the best teams based on who they actually play in their conference. Still, there is no reason they should have better players, better coaches, and more money to spend on football and be better than UNC.

Ummm ...we struggled with Elon. Tied at halftime.

Y'all should have beaten Virginia

Football is a 60 minute game. It is entirely possible that UNC could be competitive for a half. But Duke should have little trouble putting UNC away, even if Duke has quit.

James Franklin to Virginia Tech. What in the world is he thinking? That's like a 9 going home with a 3 at the bar a closing time. He must have been told that he was quite literally going to have zero other options on the market this cycle.

VT has had success in the past. He takes a step back from the elite but will be coaching a team that he could lead to an ACC championship, which gets them to the playoffs. I don't think it's a terrible move for him.

Yeah, you’re probably right! I just figure he is arguably the best candidate on the market this cycle and VT is like the 10th best job open. But you’re definitely right, his pathway to an ACC championship and college football playoff is at least easier on paper at VT than it would be at any of the other jobs.

I actually think this makes sense for Franklin. He’s a good coach, but his reputation at this point is that he just can’t get over hump and win big games. If you’re a program like LSU or Florida that has legitimate national championship aspirations, that’s probably not the type of coaching profile you’re looking for.

Yeah that’s probably exactly right. Plus this should be a much lower pressure cooker situation for him than any of the other top jobs on the market. Honestly, I’m probably just pretty jealous of them for landing someone that good, more than anything else.

It does suck for us. He will probably do well there and will definitely clean up the VA recruiting pipelines.

This is a good move for Franklin, he’s moving to a lower pressure job at a school with a solid football legacy, with fertile recruiting grounds nearby, and an excellent game day atmosphere. And unlike almost any other coach they could hire, he’s moving to a more metropolitan location.
