James Franklin to Virginia Tech. What in the world is he thinking? That's like a 9 going home with a 3 at the bar a closing time. He must have been told that he was quite literally going to have zero other options on the market this cycle.

With as many high profile jobs that will be open, it doesn't make sense to leave with the first girl who bats her eyes... but it does make sense geographically. He knows the area and has recruited the hell out of it.

It didn't work out at Penn State this year but Franklin is one helluva coach.

Family members of Lane Kiffin visited Florida and LSU this weekend. Ole Miss is offering $12M per year to stay but he has to sign before the Egg Bowl or they will fire him.

I think I would rather live in Oxford than either Gainesville or Baton Rouge.

I cannot believe that last year we had the best open job on the market and this year VT has a "somewhere in the middle of the pack" open job on the market and they end up with James Franklin and we end up with our current staff.

School Ugh GIF

It’s hot and humid in the summer in North Carolina.

Gainesville, Baton Rouge, and Oxford likely make North Carolina seem breezy and comfortable.

Oxford is only about 25,000 people. According to Wikipedia, it’s the 14th largest “city” in Mississippi.

Gainesville is a big ass suburb surrounding a big ass university and a huge ass former community college. It’s in Florida.

Baton Rouge is one of the most violence-ridden cities in Louisiana.

I’d choose Oxford, too. And, it’s in effing Mississippi!

In a way, Notre Dame simply demonstrates how crappy the ACC is.

Notre Dame hasn’t exactly been kicking ass and taking names since 2014. They’re certainly better than UNC and the ACC except for Clemson…..they’re not scaring the SEC or Big 10.

The ACC and UNC suck against Notre Dame.

Yes, let’s completely wimp out and play Liberty and not ND.

I'd rather live in Oxford, NC than any of those places.
I’m biased, of course (having grown up in and around Gainesville and having attended UF), but Gainesville was pretty damn nice if you knew where to look.

Great indie arts/music scene.
One of the top-rated state universities.
Plenty of access to both Atlantic and Gulf coasts, as well as springs and lakes/rivers.
Plentiful weed, mushrooms, and other drugs.
A mass of stunningly attractive coeds.

All in all, it was a damn good way to spend 5 years. I’m quite certain I had a better time as a late-teen/early-20something than I would’ve in Oxford NC or MS.

But how long ago was that?

Florida of today is very different
