Reconciliation only requires a majority in the Senate, 50+ VP.

Ambitious goals for getting priorities accomplished in the first 100 days of a new administration is hardly news.

One would assume a major goal will be to extend or make permanent parts of the TCJA that will otherwise sunset in 2025.
Yeah, normally I would be highly dubious what he’s talking about could plausibly fit within the reconciliation rules, but it’s not like this SCOTUS would interfere with that.

House GOP braces for bitter fight over the power to oust a speaker

Most GOP lawmakers despise the rule, which allows a small faction of the conference to wield outsize influence over the agenda. But conservatives are prepared to fight for it.

"House Republicans are gearing up for an intra-party war early next year over the ability to defenestrate a speaker. While the majority of Republicans despise the tool, which has single-handedly caused repeated chaos this Congress, a number of conservatives are prepared to fight to keep it.

Speaker Mike Johnson and other leadership allies have openly signaled that they want to raise the number of members required to force a vote on deposing a speaker; currently, a single lawmaker can call for a referendum. But that fight is inextricably tied to Johnson’s ambitions to remain speaker — the members who want to see the rule to remain as it is are some of the same ones who haven’t committed to supporting his bid for the gavel, and they’re not afraid to leverage that power. ..."

Fall Down Season 2 GIF by NBC

"... Johnson is the formidable favorite in tomorrow's ballot. But this denies him GOP unanimity ahead of January's House speaker vote.

  • House conservatives have yet to pick a candidate to challenge Johnson. The Hill was first to report on a Johnson challenger.
  • Johnson survived a leadership challenge in May after passing an aid package for Ukraine on suspension. Democrats ultimately helped block the motion to vacate against Johnson's leadership. ...
  • If the current projections hold, the GOP will start the year with a two-vote margin until special elections are held to replace Reps. Elise Stefanik and Mike Waltz, both bound for administration positions."

I confess I am a bit surprised -- this is not the actual Speaker election, just a precursor vote of the caucus, but given Trump's support for Johnson, I figured he might go unopposed. Maybe this just gives the far right group their moment now knowing they'll have to fall in line when the actual Speaker election happens in January (when he should still have Stefanik and Waltz available to vote for him since they can't take their Administration position until J20 anyway).

Get ready for Senator Ramaswamy.
but, but, the economic anxiety! You might note that Trump has done not a single thing that even remotely addresses the economy. It's almost as if that wasn't really that important.

He knows Fox News will stop telling people it’s bad and Voila! All is good.

Tf does this have to do with the post you quoted?

NYT reporting Thune will replace McConnell as senate leader.

Again, any crumb of reassurance is welcomed.

Thank God. It's long past time for Congressional Democrats to abandon the seniority system and put some younger blood in charge of their committees. Watching some of their aging committee chairs over the past few years (like watching Feinstein being the ranking minority Democrat on the Senate Judiciary Committee through the Amy Barrett hearings in 2020) has been painful at times.
