When the adults are in charge
Says stupid people only.

So we're massing troops on the border to . . . stop impoverished migrants, including lots of women and children. We're spending hundreds of millions of dollars, or perhaps billions, to keep out the people who provide an important part of our labor supply.

Have you considered that maybe you are not the adult in the room?

Oh, and thank you for deciding that the military can be used for domestic law enforcement. When Trump loses, and Dems gain control, it's time for Reconstruction v 2.0 (finish what we started)!. In fact, I propose we find a military officer named Sherman -- first or last name is fine -- to oversee the operation.

OK, so Guardian headline writer fucked up the “direct roll” quote … anyway:

“… The memorandum, entitled the “Military Mission for Sealing the Southern Border of the United States and Repelling Invasions”, allows the US’s armed forces to “take a more direct role” when it comes to securing the boundary in question.

… The memorandum added that the Department of Defense should be given jurisdiction to federal lands, including the Roosevelt Reservation, a 60ft-wide strip that stretches over California, Arizona and New Mexico. Doing that would give troops stationed there the legal right to detain immigrants accused of trespassing on what in effect is an elongated base – and unauthorized immigrants would be held in custody until they could be turned over to immigration agents.

Military activities that could be carried out on federal land include “border-barrier construction and emplacement of detection and monitoring equipment”, according to the memorandum.

After 45 days, the defense secretary, Pete Hegseth, will assess the “initial phase” of the order. But at any time, Hegseth could extend the amount of federal land included in the memorandum.

The ordered military takeover excludes native reservations, however, according to the memorandum. …

“…The DHS’s announcement was widely seen as a workaround of the Posse Comitatus Act, a federal law that bars US military troops from participating in most civilian law enforcement actions.

One of the purported justifications for militarizing the US border most commonly cited by Trump and his Republican colleagues is that migrants crossing the border with Mexico without permission carry much of the fentanyl sold in the US. Yet official statistics show 90% of convicted fentanyl peddlers are US citizens.”

You sure? It's in quotes. Absent any knowledge of the specifics, I would bet strongly on the Trump team fucking up a homophone over the guardian. It wouldn't be the first exec order with egregious spelling mistakes.

I looked it up. Either the Guardian did fuck up, or the executive order has been fixed on the WH site.

To stop criminals and control who comes and go's. If we need labor we can find it. How dumb does that sound that you imply we need labor so we need less secure borders. Think about what you said. Military is used to save this country from an invasion. Get your head out of the sand. Bet you didn't let an illegal into your home yet!!

1. We do need labor, and for seven decades we've been finding that labor in Mexico. Mexicans have been working American farms and ranches basically forever. There is not enough labor in America to meet the demand.

Non-racists see that as a good thing. It means our economy is doing so well that we need additional population to keep it going. That's how the economy boomed in the late 19th century! We had tons of labor demand; people came from Europe to fill it; and we had millions of new Americans.

The irony is that the American economy was, from a macro sense, good in the late 19th century, as Trump likes to say. But it wasn't good because of tariffs; it was good because of immigration.

2. A Mexican is "an illegal" the same way you are "a deplorable." If you want to use dehumanizing language for others, don't blow a gasket when the favor is returned.

3. I don't invite strangers into my home, regardless of their immigration status. But we do let anyone into the church who comes in peace. The people who you think are "invading" us very much are not, and if you would ever meet some of them, you might have a very different view. Oh, who am I kidding -- you're a hard r kind of guy. But another person in your place might see the error of their ways.

4. The borders are perfectly secure. You don't want security. You want whiteness. Come on. Give up the shtick. Fox News already has.

Use common sense please. We need open borders to find labor? There's no other way? Its like you're undermining this country on purpose! An illegal is an acceptable term. You break the law, the term fits. Crazy how brainwashed you sound
