Republicans really do seem to think that mostly empty space > densely-populated urban areas. A lot of those red counties in western Virginia have less than 25,000 people, and some less than 10,000. But hey, unlike all of those city people they're "Real Americans" whose votes should count more than urban areas.

ETA: But it's also worth noting how few in the GOP leadership actually live in those red areas. Nearly all of them live in urban areas, often blue ones. Most of the GOP high command wouldn't be caught dead living in deep-red rural counties.

Prostate cancer will kill all men if we live long enough and something else doesn’t kill us first.
Various forms. My dad had prostate cancer in his 70s. Had radiation and was told he would die of something else. He died at 95 of heart failure with prostate cancer. Not an aggressive form. OTOH, my SIL’s brother died of an aggressive from in his mid 60s.

The reason I had the surgery was the oncologist told me if I went with radiation and it came back surgery was not an option because the radiation would cause too much scar tissue. This in turn could lead to massive blood loss if something went wrong. When I was originally diagnosed with, mine was not the aggressive kind. My urologist said there was no need to do anything yet beyond monitoring and it could very well remain non aggressive the rest of my life. Unfortunately, that didn’t happen.
I urge every man on this board to have your PSA number checked regularly. It is a cancer that’s easy to check for and easy to treat if discovered early.
There have been two good side effects from the surgery, I don’t have to have a rectal exam anymore. And I pee like I’m 18 again.

Pardoning Maxwell: I’m not convinced that even clear and undeniable evidence of trump’s pedophilia would lose him support from his base. It would strip away maybe 2-3% of the outer shell at best. Not only do I believe that he literally has those remaining enthralled but I imagine a good amount of that number don’t find pedophilia wrong or offensive.
Let me get this right. Are you suggesting that a sizeable portion of St. Donald of Mar-a-Lago's base looks at young girls/young women who are wearing short skirts/shorts, tight yoga pants, or a halter top and think, "Oh man, she is just begging for 'it'"? Because based on my experience the the MAGA base, they definitely believe there should be a "she was asking for it" exception to rape and sexual assault laws. Also, once when channel surfing these same people stumbed upon an episode of "The Handmaid's Tale" and thought, "If this is a 'National Grographic' special, I want to move there."

That.

And for some even more medieval.

Totally expected. I guess it's fitting for Tillis to give all of us one last surrender to Dear Leader before leaving office and pretending that he has washed his hands of the whole business. He's one of those dudes I can see about twenty years from now popping up in interviews saying "Well, I never really supported MAGA, and I retired from Congress to get away from it" when in reality he supported Trump for POTUS three times and has voted for whatever he wants about 90%+ of the time. A Profile in Courage he's not.

He’s probably going to run for NC Governor so it’ll come back up. Hopefully in the way you assert.

My mother served on a jury about 40 years ago. It was a criminal case in which a man was accused of sexually assaulting a teenage girl. Testimony showed the girl was dressed provocatively. When the jury was deliberating the case, an older woman brought that up and said, since she was dressed that way, she was asking for it. My mom let her have it with both barrels. The man was convicted, but my mom said there was a kind of undercurrent among some jurors that the girl had asked for it.

That trial was a long time ago. But there is no doubt that there are people today who still hold to the same way of thinking that older woman espoused.

This incompetent bumbling administration can't even put out the correct flag for welcoming the visit of King Charles tomorrowo_O

That is such an embarrassing mistake, yeah there was plenty of time to correct it, but my God, it's beyond sad.

I was reading this thinking, "Man, people were awful 'back-then'." But then I remembered 40 years ago was . . . 1986 . . .!?!?!?! I am not doubting the veracity of your story one bit. But this was not some long ago tale of before I was born. I was a grown-ass man with a salaried job and a family to support in 1986. Man o' man, my generation REALLY SUCKED!
