Ayman Mohyeldin has reported that Iran was offering 3-5 years of no uranium enrichment at all in talks with the US - a better deal than Obama ever got - but Trump decided to attack anyway.

But Iran refused to offer any solution to Trump's Epstein crisis, so what choice did Trump really have?

That isn't a better deal than Obama had. Obama's nuclear deal was one of the most amazing diplomatic triumphs in modern history. Never before had a country voluntarily put on hold its ambitions for the most powerful weapon available.
 
If these strikes by the US/Israel have killed Ayatollah Khamenei, that would be a huge, huge deal.

Yes and what next? This US admin is very unlikely to have a plan. I suspect the Iranian regime has long thought about their succession and contingency plans for post Khamenei. The man was 86. Unless the Iranian military had US and Israel sleeper cells ready and waiting to capitulate to Bibi and Trump this has the look of either a further clampdown by IRGC hardliners or civil war. Iran is not Venezuela.

Dude was about one cheesecake away from death, anyway. He made Trump look like a spring chicken.

It could have a wicked witch is dead in Oz effect, but I doubt the 1 million armed Revolutionary Guardsmen are going to lay down their weapons. They will likely have the successor named in the next few days (and if they are smart, they will keep him in a secure bunker).

At his age, the successor might have already been the man behind the curtain. Needing a successor isn't catching anybody by surprise and nobody on that side we deal with more congenial.
