NY Times ran their first story on the Decarlos Brown situation:

A Gruesome Murder in North Carolina Ignites a Firestorm on the Right​


A Google search of NY Times and George Floyd (Minnesota) returned pages upon pages of results, as did a search for NY Times and Trayvon Martin (Florida). We’ll see how this story compares when all is said and done.

Um … that’s one of the main reasons this case is now drawing national attention. But it’s not really a national story. I can’t think of many murders in Charlotte that have made national headlines. Why should this one? Because the victim was pretty?

And what does the Ukrainian thing have to do with anything? It’s not like she was targeted for being Ukrainian.

It’s probably a self-fulfilling prophecy. White on black crime, especially murder, automatically garners mass attention and snowballs on its own momentum, even when race isn’t a factor like George Floyd’s death.

Daniel Penny, when all is said and done, will receive significantly more coverage despite the fact that he wasn’t a known criminal and had no intentions of killing anyone.

Not much different than George Floyd vs Tony Timpa, which were damn near identical cases, except the cops and victim were the same race.

I am never the “breaking story“ poster here (unless I missed something), but was in this case.

Had the races been reversed, I suspect a) I wouldn’t break the story and b) it would have its own thread and been 3 pages deep before I even saw it.

Did anyone here make a post or thread about it? Anyone familiar with this case?
I suspect the answer is “no” to all three questions.

On the other hand, Fox News loves black/brown on hot white/asian girl crime, particularly if it happens on vacation in another country. It is their bread and butter.

I agree that this attack in Charlotte should be garnering more attention, but the sensationalization of “your women aren’t safe with them,” has existed in America since Mary Rowlandson’s journal on captivity spawned an entire genre of semi true, and often extremely false, narratives.

Slightly off topic, but if you haven’t read Sherman Alexis’s short piece Captivity, check it out. It is one of the best stories about the complexities of race In America that I have ever seen.

No surprise there. "BoJo" in many ways was a UK version of Trump - more intelligent, certainly, but also a spotlight-craving attention hog, boor, and bully who loved insulting and taunting opponents and playing the clown in public. That he was corrupt as hell as well shouldn't really shock anyone.

Ok. I acknowledge that possibility in my post. I saw that NYCfan posted a tweet about it a few hours after my post. She's generally first on everything.

I still believe that if the races been reversed, it would have had its own thread and that thread would have been several pages long before I heard about the story.
 
Probably. There's a pretty long tradition of not reporting white on black crime so it would essentially be a man bites dog story.

NCK9 actually appears to be the first poster to post about it. That post was around 8:30 Sunday night. Then nyc and I discussed it prior to your post.

Not sure you’re correct about it being a lengthy thread if the races were reversed. I don’t think a story of a mentally ill homeless white guy killing a black woman in Charlotte is going to get a lot of national attention or garner a great deal of discussion. It would certainly make headlines in Charlotte due to it happening on Charlotte public transit and at a pretty bustling area, but I don’t think the story goes much beyond that in that scenario. The MSM wouldn’t care and Donald Trump and the right wing media certainly wouldn’t care.
