At least 161 missing and 109 dead in catastrophic Texas flooding, governor says

“…
When asked Tuesday who is to blame for the deadly, catastrophic flooding, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott called that type of language “the word choice of losers.”

Every football team makes mistakes. The losing teams are the ones that try to point out who’s to blame” he said.

“The way winners talk is not to point fingers. They talk about solutions. What Texas is all about is solutions.”…”

——
No one in Texas EVER points fingers at the QB or coach after a loss. Unheard of!

And a crass comparison at a time they just announced an 8-fold increase in missing people and death toll continuing to rise. Counties adjacent to Kerr that also suffered flooding didn’t have the casualties … but did have county emergency plans.
Asinine response by Abbott but also asking that question when kids are still missing and rescue efforts are still underway seems intentionally inflammatory and in bad taste IMO.

Kinda like we can’t talk about gun laws in the aftermath of a mass shooting? I get that media tend to turn to the question of who failed in most tragedies but when is it OK to start raising questions? I don’t know the answer but lean toward I would rather ask too soon than too late.

Fact check: Debunking 11 of Trump’s false claims at Cabinet meeting

“… Tax on Social Security: Touting the new domestic policy legislation, Trump repeated his false claim that it achieves his campaign promise of “no tax on Social Security.” It does not.

The legislation does create an additional, temporary $6,000-per-year tax deduction for individuals age 65 and older (with a smaller deduction for individuals earning $75,000 per year or more), but the White House itself has implicitly acknowledged that millions of Social Security recipients age 65 and older will continue to pay taxes on their benefits – and that new deduction, which expires in 2028, doesn’t even apply to the Social Security recipients who are younger than 65….”

“Former CIA Director John Brennan and former FBI Director James Comey are under criminal investigation for potential wrongdoing related to the Trump–Russia probe, including allegedly making false statements to Congress, Justice Department sources told Fox News Digital.

… The full scope of the criminal investigations into Brennan and Comey is unclear, but two sources described the FBI's view of the duo's interactions as a "conspiracy," which could open up a wide range of potential prosecutorial options. …”

Good thing the Supreme Court saved us from the prospect of a president persecuting his predecessors via lawfare.

Moreover, Sotomayor's vote was strategic. Since the stay was going to be lifted, she voted with the majority to make it appear stronger than a dissent. Hey, I'm voting this way because the Court is not addressing the unlawful downsizing of agencies right now.
Right. She's trying to sketch out something of an alternative holding, made possible by the lack of any actual holding in the per curiam.

Without specifics on how much money this would save, if any, there isn't much to say.

The cuts to ICE, the only intentional spending cut you suggested, will do nothing by itself, But I agree with not increasing the budget.

Other than that, it's take more from Americans while maintaining the government status quo.
Taxes were higher the last time we had a budget surplus and the economy was very strong. Why not raise taxes?
If you look at the five or six biggest contributors to our deficit after Clinton balanced the budget, I’m pretty sure Bush’s tax cuts and Trump’s tax cuts are among them.

"He looked up at the ceiling and wondered aloud: “You see the top line moldings?
The only question is — do you gold-leaf it?”

Sure! Gold-leaf the top line moldings. Heck, just do the whole White House in gold-leaf. Why not? There's not much else going on that's as important in the world is there?

So when he said he definitely was not from Russia, technically he was not lying.

Seems in this case the question was raised before the catastrophe. For some reason TX politicians could not get it done. Fat cats too busy marking Trump's leg?
