CURRENT EVENTS - May

The Sprint news is horrible in that their people are likely to now show up in greater numbers on mainline airlines. Just this past week, I flew from MSP to RDU and a family boarded. They sat all around me and the mom boarded with a full pizza. Looked like a Pepper's XL size box. Once we took off, she handed out pieces all around me. Even offered me a slice. Nice folks, but I wish they would price the common people out of flying for a few years.

I’ll be sad to see if Spirit goes. It often had significantly cheaper flights - especially if you didn’t need luggage or care about seat selection. It was great for solo travelers. As the low cost carriers fold, the majors continue to jack rates. This is not good for consumers.
Avelo fills that niche as well. They don't even have wifi or drink service. The flight attendants are there solely for herding passengers and meeting FAA regulations. They also mostly fly to smaller cities (Charleston Myrtle Beach) or to secondary airports close to larger cities, like Wilmington DE rather than Philly, or New Haven and Long Island instead of NYC, Concord instead of Charlotte, Lakeland rather than Orlando or Tampa, etc. They are confined to the east coast, slowly expanding into the midwest (Indy, Cleveland, Detroit, Grand Rapids).

They have a nonstop from Concord to San Juan which we took back in the spring. It's about a four hour flight which is too far for a bare bones/no service flight, but for a one hour hop to Cleveland for my wife to see her ailing father on the cheap while avoiding the always busy CLT airport, it's fine.

That was on SNL. It was a takeoff by Dan Aykroyd and Jane Curtin on a segment on 60 Minutes at the time called Point/Counterpoint. Can’t remember the two people’s names, but one was a conservative man and the other a liberal woman.
Yes, I knew that. The 60 Minutes segment being parodied featured James J. Kilpatrick and Shana Alexander. I didn't mention that because I am older than dirt and I incorrectly assume the 60 Minute segment and the SNL parody were part of the cultural consciousness. I need to be more mindful that what I think is part of the cultural consciousness is not universally applicable to population at large.

Edit: However, in my defense, what made the SNL parody funny was that Dan Aykroyd's comment seemed so close to what Kilpatrick actually wanted to say.

Wasn’t aware of your age. I’m a member of the dirt family too. Those skits by Dan and Jane were hilarious.

This is exactly what I would expect just prior to Pissed Pete doing something monumentally stupid and publicly embarrassing, then getting canned.
Agreed. He's probably too clueless or just drunk to realize it, but if the Iran War continues to go south then Trump will start looking for a scapegoat, and he's likely target number one. Most of Trump's minions seem clueless as to the fact that they're constantly on thin ice with him except for all but a tiny few (Miller, Ivanka, etc.) Even the attractive female (often Fox News) castoffs are expendable if they get themselves into trouble or displease him, as Noem did. Even Leavitt has apparently gotten on his bad side due to his low approval ratings.

Link: Ethics Panel Is Investigating Rep. Chuck Edwards Over Alleged Sexual Misconduct With a Former Aide

Chuck Edwards (R-NC-11) accused of sexual impropiety with his former deputy chief of staff. Represents almost all of the western mountains part of NC. Roughly the same seat as Madison Cawthorn. So, roughly speaking, still represents a step up in moral integrity with compared to his predecessor.

So far the new reports have not reported the sex of Edwards alledged paramour.
Those hard-shell Baptists in the western NC mountains can really pick 'em! But it's Asheville that is a cesspool of immoral and decadent behavior, right NC GOP?
