Wait, what? Unless I missed something, the only factual basis for the charges against Comey is the 86 47 seashell photo.

Here’s DOJ describing it — Federal Grand Jury Indicts Former FBI Director James Comey for Threats to Harm President Trump

The Indictment includes two counts, first in violation of 18 U.S.C. § 871, alleging that James Comey, 65, knowingly and willfully made a threat to take the life of, and to inflict bodily harm upon the President of the United States. This charge alleges that on May 15, 2025, by publicly posting an image over the internet via Instagram depicting “86 47”, which a reasonable recipient who is familiar with the circumstances would interpret as a serious expression of an intent to do harm to the President of the United States.

The Indictment also charges Comey in violation of 18 U.S.C. § 875(c), that James Comey consciously disregarded a substantial risk that his communication would be viewed as threatening violence, and that he knowingly transmitted a communication in interstate commerce that contained a threat to injure the person of another, which a reasonable recipient who is familiar with the circumstances would interpret as a serious expression of an intent to do harm to a person.

“Threatening the life of the President of the United States is a grave violation of our nation’s laws,” said Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche. “The grand jury returned an indictment alleging James Comey did just that, at a time when this country has witnessed violent incitement followed by deadly actions against President Trump and other elected officials. The temperature needs to be turned down, and anyone who dials it up and threatens the life of the President will be held accountable.”

“James Comey disgracefully encouraged a threat on President Trump’s life and posted it on Instagram for the world to see,” said FBI Director Kash Patel.

Restaurants, bars, grocery stores -- what exactly are Pubs doing to have to show ID so often. Maybe getting arrested after too much booze?

Bars maybe. Not restaurants.
And it’s not like you’re showing your ID in bars to prove who you are. It’s to show that you are of age to drink legally. And most of the time, unless it’s an establishment that has a bouncer that checks everyone’s ID, no one checks your ID if they can tell you’re of legal drinking age. Needless to say, it’s been years since my 50-year-old ass has had to show my ID at a bar/venue that doesn’t have a bouncer.

This is where the TV pundits fail every single fucking time. Why didn't she follow up with there is zero mention in the actual indictment of anything other than the post, which he took down the same day when he realized some people interpret 86 as a violent threat and not merely to get rid of. Shouldn't all this other evidence of a conspiracy by a former FBI director to assassinate the president at least get some mention?

Our point of sale system at the brewery has a section called '86'd items'. As far as I know toast is not planning on murder.

Yes, I knew that. The 60 Minutes segment being parodied featured James J. Kilpatrick and Shana Alexander. I didn't mention that because I am older than dirt and I incorrectly assume the 60 Minute segment and the SNL parody were part of the cultural consciousness. I need to be more mindful that what I think is part of the cultural consciousness is not universally applicable to population at large.

Edit: However, in my defense, what made the SNL parody funny was that Dan Aykroyd's comment seemed so close to what Kilpatrick actually wanted to say.
Thanks for the names. Like I said earlier in the thread, I’m a member of the dirt family too.
