Alexa Alexander placed 3rd in the Oregon high school state meet jumping 5’4” (that’s not impressive). Reese Eckard placed 4th. The trans athlete placed 5th. 5’10.75” is the provisional standard for nationals. 6’2” is the automatic qualifying standard. For the U20 meet it’s 6.1 feet.
The articles about this describe Alexander and Eckard as “track stars.” They aren’t. They’re high school athletes in a low population state who aren’t important nationally.
No one is bragging that they placed 3rd in the Oregon high school state meet. If they are, the response would be, “You must have qualified for Nationals. What did you do?”
