I really have cut back my intake of political news drastically. I also avoid this thread of daily current events for the most part. One of the podcasts I follow is the Daily Beast. The episode today was, This is How Trump Just Got Triply Humiliated. Talking about all the leaders in China making fun of him with the big military parade. But it was a couple of minutes of the conversation that David Rothkopf said something that really nailed it. He was speaking about how China is really moving fast into the future with renewable energy and the cities are ultra modern. He said of course there are major issues there that are terrible, but as far as military and infrastructure they are leaving the US in the dust. I copied this from the transcript.

“The United States has lost the plot where we're trying to turn back time, we're trying to get rid of voting rights, and we're trying to get rid of immigrants who drove it. And we're trying to push away the smartest people in the world. And say: ‘don't come study at our schools.’ And we're shutting down scientific research, and we've got people in charge of our health agencies who don't actually believe in the medical science of the 18th century. And we get people in charge of our, you know, environmental agencies who don't actually believe in the science that every scientist in the world believes. And so we're going backwards fast, and they're moving forward, and the world is looking at it going: ‘do I want to be associated with going forward?’”

Now, I grew up in 5 different States and lived in Europe for most of 7 years - during my mid 20’s to early 30’s (1985-1991). No, I wasn’t in the military. I still have loads of friends and colleagues around the globe from England, Ireland, Scotland, to mainland Europe and also Australia, Thailand, as well as ties to Latin America. All - everyone - of those folks are either horrified of, or laughing at, the U.S. and our dumbshit populace and our political system, and our stupid healthcare, guns, educational systems (but not our Universities), etc. etc.

They laughed at our getting our panties in a wad because Bill Clinton got a blow job. They laughed at Ronnie Raygun. They laughed at Bush 1 and laughed harder at Bush 2. And Trump? Hahahaha, don’t get them started on Trump and MAGA. They actually liked Obama, and some of the laughter actually paused for those 8 years.

We’re moving backward alright… and we certainly aren’t “making America great again”. We’re fucking idiots and we get everything we’ve got coming to us. And the rest of the world knows we’re a laughingstock.
Anti Americanism is so prevalent right now in Canada that Subway Canada, as a promotion, has stopped measuring their subs in inches basically saying it is a backwards measurement from a backwards country.

they are calling it the "Ditch the inch" campaign and citing it as a patriotic move.

Not to beat a dead horse, but the worst part of all of this is WE WERE IN SUCH A GREAT POSITION!!! Our major geopolitical rivals have never been weaker. Russia is a catastrophe. Europe and India are messes. China is facing a ton of major economic and demographic challenges, and AI is really their best hope for a prosperous future. We had a chance to lead all of them for the next 100 years. We have the scientists and the tech innovators. We have the exceptional research universities. We have natural resources. We have the ability to grow our population at a thoughtful and beneficial rate through immigration. We had it ALL!!!

But a plurality of Americans decided they'd rather live in the 13th century. What a waste. An absolute, unnecessary, catastrophic waste of an opportunity few nations in the world have ever seen.

This can't be emphasized enough. We literally had the world at our feet and the ability to be the dominant factor in a more prosperous order for the foreseeable future. All we had to do was not step on our own dick. Instead, we have not only stepped on it, but stomped on it repeatedly. Even if we don't descend into the abyss of authoritarian rule, we have kneecapped the incredible potential we had, as a nation to make the 21st century every bit as much 'the American century' as was the 20th.

Yep. History will be BRUTAL to the Americans who voted for Trump. Another 100 years of Pax Americana was ours for the taking. Now, who the hell knows?

"China is really moving fast into the future with renewable energy and the cities are ultra modern."

Did your podcaster mention that China is experiencing a "resurgence" in the construction of new coal-fired power plants? According to the Centre for Research on Energy and Clean Air and Global Energy Monitor, China has begun building 94.5 gigawatts of new coal-power capacity and resumed 3.3GW of suspended projects in 2024, the highest level of construction in the past 10 years.

Did your podcaster mention that our largest State California regulates industries to death preventing construction of high speed rail, housing and other large scale projects?

Did your podcaster mention that Dem mayors from across the country are actively preventing the President from deploying Federal assets to clean up the American cities and to reduce crime.

What about the excessive regulation that essentially prevents the construction of new nuclear power plants in this Country? Georgia is the only exception and it took 15 years to complete the construction of Plant Vogtle. I'm not aware of any new projects for clean nuclear energy on the books even though EVs and AI are going to require us to have massive new energy sources in the coming years. Are Dems in favor of this? If so, we should work together on this.

1. Very strange of you to be talking about China when Trump is adopting the worst parts of the Chinese and Russian economic systems. He's actively trying to create something that doesn't resemble free market capitalism, and is more similar to the kleptocratic, command aspects of China and Russia.

2. Could you please link to a power company that wants to build new nuclear plants but is not able to do so? I'm all in favor of nuclear energy. But the plants are extraordinarily expensive, and that seems to be why none of them are being built. See the SCANA catastrophe as an object lesson. Would also help if the Pubs in Nevada would stop bitching about Yucca Mountain.

What in the world are you guys talking about? What is holding the US back? Are you referring to the USAID cuts? NPR? The reduction of federal workers? Elimination of DEI? Private industry is moving full steam ahead with AI and doesn't need government help.

You really worried about India? It's ALWAYS played both sides of the free world vs communist countries going back to the 1940s.

Isolationism. Which is at the absolute heart of the MAGA agenda. Can you really not see that? Unbelievable.

Really? Trump's injected the US and settled 7 different conflicts around the globe since January. He's taken out Iran's nuclear program. Bombed the Houthi rebels into the stone age. Trying to broker Russia/Ukrainian peace. Same with the Israel/Palestinian conflict. Resurrected the Abraham Accords. Rejuvenated NATO by securing 5% commitments for the members. Brought major NATO members to White house for meeting with Z.

Don't see isolationism.

Um, ceding world influence to horrific regimes. Mercantilism. Corruption on a breathtaking scale. Promoting and glorifying absolute incompetence in our leadership structure.

Bull. Fucking. Shit.

Read something other than the Fox News webpage. You're being mindfucked.

Why do you have to lie ALL THE FUCKING TIME? It isn't Dem mayors preventing that. IT IS THE LAW PREVENTING THAT. And not just any law. A law that has been around for 150 years. A law that has been considered an aspect of free democracy not just here but around the world.

we measure the health of democracies literally (among other measures) by the involvement of the military in civic affairs. That is literally the measuring stick for democracy. So when you are touting Trump's use of "federal assets," it means you are actively endorsing authoritarianism.

That's not an opinion. That's fact.

California must be doing something right. It's the fourth largest economy in the world and it has greatly outpaced the national average in growth.

California does not "regulate industry to death," as you would know if you used your brain. A state that regulates industries to death would not be the 4th largest economy in the world.

California does have some issues -- being rectified as we speak -- about building projects in residential areas. That's all.

Four of the six BIGGEST COMPANIES IN THE WORLD are in California and have been their entire lives. That's remarkable. The other two are based (or were based) in Washington state. What does Georgia make? I like Vidalia onions, I'll give you that.

It feels like one major edge conservatives have over liberals is pettiness. It may sound ridiculous, but it has been incredibly effective. They boycott "woke" companies, they certainly don't vacation in California, etc. Meanwhile, liberals are vacationing at Disneyworld and travelling to Texas for concerts and cannot wait for Carolina to join the SEC so they can go to Alabama for a game.

Liberals should absolutely be petty. Gov Newsome has taken the lead. Do not support companies, do not visit states, do not donate to entities, that provide support to Conservative causes.
