Ok, one to add to the customer service category. One that started in the wrong direction.

I've been using the same oil change company since I purchased my truck. It's Valvoline Instant Oil change. They have always been great for me.

So, last week my mother wanted her oil changed and recommended this place.

Well she came home and wasn't happy. She said that they recommended all kinds of things (They recommended a differential service, but her car doesn't have a differential) that she didn't want and talked her into getting her transmission fluid changed. She then said that she felt that she had that done when the car was last serviced.

So, I emailed their customer service complaint department. They responded and asked for the ticket number and the VIN number of the car. Today I got a response. They checked the carfax for the VIN of the car and it had a transmission service in Nov 2024. So they are refunding the money for the trans service.

I do like that they took responsibility and were professional about it. But I'm not happy that they took advantage of an older woman.

I told my mother to do what my daughters do. They ask the techs to write down the recommendations so they can ask their father. This really works.

Valvoline place near me put on the wrong oil fliter one time. It was a spare vehicle we rarely used except for hauling junk or mulch and household maintenance type stuff. I went about a year thinking I had a slow leak not worth fixing until I took the car to a real mechanic for something else and he told me.

So, a good and a bad today.
Bad: the doctor my wife has been going to for a decade and she had an office appointment with this past week, turned a $12 bill over to collections. I guess we missed the payment, but why not tell her when she's in the office? She read the notice, called and paid it, then talked to the rep. He basically said that they did it to scare people. Plus, the bill was only from Feb. Seems like a stupid policy to not tell a customer they owe money when they are in the office. So, she's going to find another doctor.

Good: My wife and I ate at Vickery Burger Bar today. I knew it was going to be good when we walked in to smiles and welcomes. It was clean and I liked the atmosphere. We ordered two different burgers so we could share. They were very well cooked and tasted great. The crispy edges were perfect. The fries were good too. Just before we left the owner came over to talk. Very nice guy. We talked about the menu and one offering: "The Bear" beef sandwich. We all like the show "The Bear" and had a great conversation about the show, the food, and the future. Next time I'm in there I wonder if they will have some version of the burger I described. :) He also gave me some cooking tips that I hope to use.

Trader Joes . I have not been in a while because I no longer live very near one. But my memory was every checkout experience was cheery and fun. They also have a very high volume of educated employees-that are over 40. I have to assume they have an usual kind of recruitment-word of mouth at AA meetings or some such.
