Dehumanizing people should not be allowed here.

But calling someone "illegal" as if their very existence defies the laws of humanity and civilization is a total bitch move.
Well, 1) did they or did they not do something illegal and 2) when was the last time some non human thing did something illegal?

So, isn’t referring to an “illegal” as an “illegal” affirming the “illegal’s” humanity?

not sure what you mean but it smacks of a tautological argument...

but accepting your argument, then not only Trump and his minions are illegals, there are thousands and thousands of American who are "illegals" and should be referred to as such in order to affirm their humanity.

so maybe your argument is a reductio ad absurdum argument ? If so, then well done, sir:sneaky:

So is “shoplifter” or “jaywalker” ok but “shoplift” or “jaywalk” not because of the noun vs adjective/verb thing or whatever, or is it the dehumanization of the term “shoplifter” or “jaywalker” that’s the issue?
I don't believe it's the part of speech that makes it dehumanizing.

So people who drive faster than the speed limit are “illegals” in your world?
Yes, if you take his post literally, but in a post earlier I suggested he may have posed a reductio ad absurdum argument.

If he did not, then he is truly ok with labeling thousands and thousands if not millions of Americans "illegals"

You're venturing into Zenmode and gtyellowjacket level of "being a fucking idiot just for the sake of contrarianism" level of stupid now.

For all those who are clutching their pearls about "illegals" or "an illegal".....

A quick search of "a felon" returned five pages of about 20 results per page, not including results in this thread. I bet that almost all of them are in reference to Trump being a felon and being president.

So, if you are going to say that calling someone an illegal or illegal is dehumanizing, then all of the pearl clutchers should go back and edit their references to Trump as a felon.

No, the fact that "illegal" as a noun is a recently concocted term does not change anything, so maybe take down the faux outrage a few notches.

Calling Trump a felon is a fact. Calling everyone that they are trying to deport illegals is bullshit. Clear enough?
Everyone that crossed the border illegally, which is who the term references, is an illegal just as Trump is a felon, right?

"The felon was elected president."

"The illegal was deported."

Additionally...

The same faux outrage exists for terms like whites and blacks. I can say, with absolute certainty, that I have at one point said "Whites are more likely to be serial killers". If I repeated that here, I suspect few people, if any, would say a word. If I said "Blacks are more likely to (insert statistically accurate crime)", many minds would be lost and many pearls would be clutched.

Awww, so cute....it's defending Trump.

And I refer to you as "it" only because I believe you to be more bot than human, since no actual human can be as empathy-free as you appear to be.
