Thanks for the clarification and I wasn’t trying to take a shot at you in any way.

I’d say those are light chuckle-worthy, but nothing I’d tune in for on a regular basis.
All good and I didn't take it that way. Admittedly, my sense of humor leans towards the more juvenile variety so I find it to be quite entertaining. I also liked watching Kimmel & Corolla on The Man Show way back when.

I still don't understand why the Right-wing got so twisted-up about Kimmel suggesting that it was a right-winger that shot Charlie Kirk. Seems like "a hit dog will holler" moment.
well it wasn't clear that he suggested a right winger did it he was clear that the right wingers were out front making sure that people did not think of MAGA person did it.

He was right.

This folds in with the point @superrific made.

If the national networks were to bypass the local affiliates with cable and streaming services and have those services access the national network broadcasts as opposed to offering local affiliate broadcasts, it would significantly damage local affiliates. Add in something like what you're describing with free DTC streams with ads or no ads for a small fee and I think you'd essentially crush the local affiliates.

My only concern with doing this is what happens to local news broadcasts. Local print news media is already pretty much dead and if local tv media were to follow, who reports on local issues and events, especially political ones? Who covers local elections or issues with government? Who covers local business issues or community events or significant problems in the community?

I don't know that local tv media do a good job of that now, but a mediocre job is better than no one providing those stories to the public.
It is sad but inevitable. The decline of local news has been going on for for a while and the future is bleak. Sinclair shares a lot of the blame with its “must reads” that undermine local trust and outsourcing weather and other news with non-local broadcasts.

This issue could speed up the inevitable move to a national streaming feed for the major broadcast networks. In the not too distant future, local affiliates may soon become obsolete. Yes, there may well be a few meemaws and pawpaws that still use the rabbit ears, but soon everyone will be streaming all entertainment. When that day comes, local affiliates will cease to have any relevance.

Pending that inevitable future, ABC, CBS, NBC and Fox may choose to simply offer a free direct to consumer streaming service with ads. The affiliates do not have any leverage in this situation, and if they overplay their hand, their demise may come sooner than they expect.
This is why i can't see why Nexstar was willing to put u $6.5 billion to buy more stations.

Loved The Man Show with those guys. The $20 bill in the toilet of a public restroom was a classic.
I loved Sunday nights on TV. I’m not one who watches a lot of shows that come on a specific night of the week, but I was always in front of the TV on Sundays to watch The Sopranos and the Man Show.

My fear is that if the national networks pull out and make local tv stations unprofitable, then all that will be left will Sinclair-like stations where the goal is as much putting out propaganda as profitability (although I imagine they'll be profitable in most areas outside of the biggest cities). How do we fight against propaganda when the largest amount of local stations are nothing more than local Fox News clones and the truth can't make it out of the media ecosystem?

I don’t think anyone will be watching broadcast tv in 10-20 years. It is a dying industry. The local scene will be covered by internet sites and social media (for better or worse).

I'm not suggesting that there will still be broadcast tv, but who will be the ones producing the media for "internet sites and social media"? We all know social media is a clusterfuck of misinformation, disinformation, and propaganda. Do we think that "internet sites" will have the ability to reasonably cover local news stories? The local media that survives in many areas will be nothing more than a video-based version of the Examiner local newspapers, right-wing shill sites that produce nothing but propaganda/slanted coverage because Republican donors will foot the bill and there will be no other media to provide unbiased coverage.

I'm pretty cynical about the future of news & media and every rabbit trail I go down only makes me more cynical.

Timing is everything. Disney+ hiked subscription prices by 20% today.
Speaking of dying industries and providers, streaming services aren't going to survive in the long run if they keep jacking up their prices like this. The number of people who can afford to keep paying these higher rates with the price of everything else going up has got to be pretty limited. I've started hearing some people my age say they miss the days of free TV, and they're having to cut back on the networks they can subscribe to.

Losing Sinclair “local” TV “news” broadcasts would increase the knowledge of individuals in the Sinclair viewing areas……same as stopping people from watching Fox “News.”

I’m not just saying this because I detest Trump and all that but I thought Jimmy pitched a perfect game. Absolutely crushed it. Crushed it.

Even the DeNiro bit was funny and didn’t seem lame. Just a flawless show. Well, I still think Glen Powell is lame ha.
