I can't imagine hating or writing off anyone over their political views, possibly because my own cynicism makes me able to understand that their decision on the lesser of the two evils might be based on a different perspective than mine. How exactly does their decision diminish your life in any meaningful way? The price you pay for your own freedom to choose is that they also have the same freedom.
We all walk in different shoes indeed, sir. Its a me society when it was intended to be a we society.

I very much like your first and last sentences. Well said. But I do think our neighbors can make decisions that diminish our lives. And if they make those decisions deliberately to diminish others' lives, they may not deserve the benefit of our doubt.

Still, I'm onboard with your message.

In normal times I would agree. If this were about them voting for Reagan or either Bush I would just chalk it up as a difference of opinion based on different life experiences.

I can’t do that with MAGA.

It’s funny how the people whining about friendship being more important than politics would never change their politics to save a friendship.
This. My in laws are Trumpers. Everything has to be on their terms. They “just want their family to be together” as long as that is at their house when they are available. Never would come to seattle but show up day 1 when we moved back to nc. My wife canceled going to their house for Thanksgiving yesterday, just couldn’t pretend any more. But their response was just that “politics shouldn’t come between love of family etc”

I refuse to pretend with my friends and family any longer.

I am kind of planning to retreat into my family and life and embrace where I live more. If I am not planning on living America again, kind of time for me to stop caring about it. Probably reroute my charitable giving to more local Nova Scotian causes and taper off what I did to help Americans. It's not admirable, but I am hopeless at this point. Feels like trying to sweep the hallways of the Titanic as it was sinking.

Both parties are controlled by big corps and mega wealthy donors. I dont like Americans in general and a large majority of the world agrees. You need serious perspective if you like or dislike someone because of politics. Your side is controlled by $ when push comes to shove just like the other.

To me, it has nothing to do with the actual “old school politics”. I would care far less about this, if they were just voting for George Bush. But, Donald Trump is a morally repugnant person who ran a nakedly racist, sexist campaign and voting for him is a deal breaker for me. You don’t have to see it that way, but I do

Some people have absolutely no idea how much effort goes into being their friend. With how tired people are there just isn’t the energy to bite their tongues as some crap friend says toxic crap.

Consider the libs owned. Enjoy your prize of a potential friend pool of 75M people. That should be more than enough.

I'll do the right thing for sure. I hope Trump gets to push everything through he promised.
I'll be fine. Make decent coin, white male living in the SE USA... I'll be fine.
But those who are struggling, good luck on your own!

Would hate to see these tariffs destroy the working class economy. Would also hate to see a few terrorist attacks.

My brother is like this.

I told him that once my mother is settled after my father's passing, that he will never hear from me again.

He still making everything harder than it needs to be. He isn't helping at all. Honestly, while I feel sorry for him, I'm so fucking tired of him.

If not for my mother needing help, I would have already moved on.

When their political views are to make your life worse when it doesnt impact them?

I mean maybe your comment is find for straight white men. But for women? Gay folks? Black people? Sorry this isn't a disagreement over mustard vs ketchup. This is "do I have a right to my own personal security and happiness" shit. So no, I have zero fucks to give about writing off MAGAs. It's why HY got blocked - cause he says he's moderate and in the same breath disdains gay people. Fuck him and fuck trying to be the bigger person.

I can't imagine hating or writing off anyone over their political views,
How is that possible, given that you support a political movement that embodies just that behavior more than any other movement in modern American history? I mean, this is just laughable.

Maybe you can't imagine it, but you do it every single day. Every single time you defend Trump, you are endorsing the idea that there is an "enemy within" who needs to be fought and suppressed -- the enemy within being defined solely by political views. So which is it? You can't have it both ways. I mean, you can think you can, but don't be surprised when other people see through the bullshit.

This is why people think MAGA is motivated by hate and little else. Because every single alternate explanation MAGA world offers is obviously false and does not remotely explain what they show us on a daily basis.
