Nobody contends for a title every year. Most teams hardly ever do.

UNC has fallen back a bit in the NIL era. Hopefully that changes soon.
 
20 wins and an NIT bid are pretty good around here.

Congrats to our Duke friends on this board. Damn y'all got a squad. Scheyer was a heck of a good hire and may well win a national title as a coach at age 38.

I can think of very few years where UNC made the NCAAT with no shot of competing against the best teams. Maybe the year we lost to Wisconsin. Even when we are an 8-seed, we have had a puncher's chance to cut down the net. If the NCAAT committee somehow let this team into the tournament with an 0-3 record against Duke, what could we possibly hope to accomplish?

Even if we put together a 2024 State or 2022 UNC run, we simply wouldn't have the quality of team needed to cut down the nets.

I do want to make the Tourney
 
Good gameplan, good execution, great effort. They lost to a better team. I’ll take that kind of showing anytime.

They needed to be pretty close to perfect, but there was that one stretch where RJ turned it over a couple times and Jackson and Powell launched terrible step-back 3’s with no offensive flow, and it came at a time dook was scoring every time down… just never regained composure after that.
 
There was a moment fairly early, when a Duke big blocked a shot or put in a shot. Hell, doesn't matter. And I don't remember.

But I knew then, no matter what, UNC would lose. Just don't have the size to compete. Same as the game in Durham.

I like Hubert, but time for a change. It grieves me that we apparently have $30 mil for the football team. I get it. We're wanting to go to the SEC or Big Ten. But what the hell!

We could be winning basketball championships!

Hubert will be back so that change isn’t coming but others are.
 
They really showed some fight this time, but as others have said, dook is simply the best team (by far) in the ACC this year and maybe the entire country. UNC needed to play a nearly-perfect game to have a chance to win and that obviously didn't happen. This is easily the best dook team I've seen in years - better than the Zion Williamson squad. I hate to say it but they may well cut down the nets in Texas. As for us, I don't think we have a chance of making the NCAA tourney unless we likely win the ACC tournament. Except for UCLA we have almost no wins against quality teams. I do think that Hubert is definitely on the hot seat for next year and will be gone unless we have a major turnaround next season - not just making the tournament, but making some real noise nationally.

Don’t have to win the ACCT but do probably have to make the finals which would mean beating dook.

They did look good for most of the game. When RJ went out in the second half, they became too stagnant on offense, settling too easily for bad shots - that stretch is where the game was decided, imo.
