I have to laugh.

In the late ‘70’s, Chapel Hill High School, Durham Academy, and Jordan High School students had raging parties - many in/near Bahama (several hosted by a student with the last name of Hill - think UNC royalty). We also had raging parties in western parts of Durham County and Hope Valley and Orange County.

Some of these were incredibly well-organized: (1) pastures to park cars; $3/car; (2) pop your trunk to make sure no one was sneaking in; (3) $X a cup; lose your cup, buy a new one; even if you didn’t drink, you had to buy a cup; 4) $X to “access” a bong

It was Chapel Hill and the well-off parts of Durham. Parents were ALWAYS out of town. Rotating parties.

Lots of empty land north of Chapel Hill and South of I-85 back in the ‘70’s.

What the kids didn’t know is that the parents were gone to swinger parties.

what gives you the idea it was an HBCU party?

all of the reports i've read on this happening in both orange and durham counties say its duke students and related to the frats getting kicked off of campus there, which makes sense.
Because of a comment by the daughter of the land owner on a Facebook discussion about it

It's been going on with every college in the area for a few years

The Frats chose to leave campus and revoke their local charters rather than eliminate Frosh rush and require Pledges to be Sophomores.

Ah, the good old days when House P would successfully cart a flimsily, but creatively, "disguised" keg to football games at Wallace Wade.

Back in the ‘70’s when there were aluminum bleachers in Kenan’s west end, I remember seeing 4-6 guys carrying another man in a wheelchair up one of the aisles in those bleachers.

His legs were all wrapped up in a blanket.

The bleacher aisles had a wide, deep platform every 8-10 rows. Plenty of room for a wheelchair. They put the wheel chair about 15-20 rows up.

Someone had rigged a way to carry a keg under the seat of the wheelchair.
