I'm not sure where the 15% numbers on ground beef are coming from. I've purchased my ground beef at Costco for the last 10 years, it was around $2.50 for years, it had spiked to $3.99 under Biden, but went back down to around $2.99, it's now $6.99 a pound. That's not 15% even using trump math.

And steaks.... I avoid the steak section now, it's scary.

I used to buy whole filets for around $80-90, now they are over $200. A whole Ribeye is over $300.

If I were ever desperate enough to use that again, (not used since my newly wed days almost 50 years ago.) I think I'd probably use sliced and browned smoked sausage. It has a better texture and flavor, on the whole, and generally cheaper.
Yea, the thought of hamburger helper would probably help me to diet and avoid eating. Nothing negative to those who eat it, I just never really liked it.

But, hotdogs are almost $10 for the "beef" dogs at Publix, for an 8 count package. I pretty much only buy them when they are BOGO now.

You know, I never really had any concern with food prices until recently, it feels like they have jumped considerably. I go to Publix for a few things for dinner, not the whole meal, and it's $50. When we buy groceries it's normally over $150 now.
It was never this bad previously.

U.S., China Sound Confident Note After Trade Talks

Scott Bessent hails ‘very successful framework’ for Trump-Xi meeting as Beijing reports preliminary consensus on key issues

There was a WSJ fire wall so couldn't read the article. The fact that Bessent hailed the " very successful framework" means nothing to me. Did the article quote China saying the same ?

“… Chinese Vice Commerce Minister Li Chenggang separately told reporters that “the two sides have reached preliminary consensus” on possible solutions for issues that have rocked relations between the world’s two largest economies….”

Does anyone think Trump has ever shopped at a grocery store. High food prices are just big and beautiful when you have 100+ millions hard working taxpayers paying for your meals. And when one can invite over friends to join you in a $300,000,000 dinning room the free food is going to be especially delicious.

Thank you nycfan...you are the best !

Reading the entire article and reading between the lines, they have reached a "consensus" on the issues that will be discussed, but I see no reason to believe that will lead to any softening of the current trade agreement impasse.

Just more Trump smoke being blown up our ass...

“… Apartment rents nationally are advancing at their slowest pace in years, thanks to the glut of new units that has taken longer than expected to absorb. More recently, job concerns among young people are posing a new threat to the rental market.

The U.S. unemployment rate for people aged 20 to 24 was 9.2% in August, more than double the overall rate. If a weaker job market continues, it could lead more of these renters to seek roommates or move back with their family, rather than get their own place. …”

That may be true about the pace of rent increases, but that’s not much solace after the last few years — Average Rent by Year

Rent is still a major problem for young people, especially in desirable areas.

winning so fun
I still wish the Amazon folks would grow up and Unionize
Union busting began under Reagan and the GQP has been hardcore anti-union ever since. I have tried to understand why union Democrat members became Reagan supporters back in 1980.

Looking back was it the beginning of white working and middle class Americans voting against their own economic interests in service of their "cultural values " ?
