I think it's important for 92 to understand there is a big difference in "regular" Delta 9 THC vs Hemp-based Delta 8/10 (and 9). The former is more natural and what you see get voted on and legalized/not. The other is legal (in all states? most?) in NC and can be had at any vape shop or many online stores. It's a derivative, and newer, but has about half the potency. So when people give their POV for amount, it matters what they are taking. There is also a massive variance of type. LIke I have some Delta 8 gummies where 12.5 mg gets me really elevated. But then I have a tincture of Delta 8 where it takes 50 mg to get me there (and 25 of that puts me to sleep)

Not sure where you are located. In Raleigh we have a higher end place called The Hemp Company and they have a lot of employees who can really lead you in the right direction and help you find the effect you want. Find a quality product that you like the effects of and stick with it. They vary greatly in quality. NC is supposed to be only hemp based THC but I've had a lot of the "real thing" from CO and WA that didn't have near the effects of my favorite products here. Right now the brand I use the most is called "Enjoy". I use about 10 mg D-9 THC but I'd start with 5mg of D-9 or 10mg of D-8.

Right when D-8 was getting more popular in NC and we didn't have D-9 yet, I ordered some 25mg D-8 gummies from a place called 3Chi online and they have a good product. I popped a whole one before dinner out with my family one night thinking this shit ain't even real so I better take the whole thing. By the end of dinner I could barely communicate and was mostly answering questions with nods and head shakes.

If you have the thc option:

Sativa-based gummies are often chosen for their ability to enhance alertness and boost mood, and they are ideal for day use. On the other hand, indica-based gummies are preferred for their properties that promote calm and help with sleep, making them better suited for use in the evening.

As a beginner start with 5mg. And just because you don't feel anything in a half hour doesn't mean you should eat more. It may take a while to kick in. Better no buzz than going out of your mind buzz. Edibles. Like all other THC products vary in potency. Anything new you haven't tried before start slowly on.

THCA is also available and isn't much different from Delta 9 in bud form and about 91% as strong in other forms.

Since you are in NC, you can get a low dose of Delta 8 either in gummy or tincture form. Go with about 15-25 mg and you will get a buzz and then it will really sedate you
I go down Internet rabbit holes until about 3 AM when I finally have to force myself to go to sleep.

Melatonin works really well for me though.

I used to smoke a decent amount of weed, but my THC consumption over the past 25 years or so has dropped off considerably. A buddy of mine who lives in CO told me to look for rosin-based edibles, not resin, something about how the THC is extracted (rosin uses no chemicals, resin does), my buddy said the rosin produces a more manageable buzz and he was right. Usually a 5mg gummy gives me a decent buzz and 10mg a strong buzz but I was eating 25-30mg a day of the rosin gummies and the buzz was light and manageable but still fun. Plus I kinda like the idea of the no chemical extraction method. Ultimately, though, I'm with nycfan, liquid is the way to go. You start feeling it much more quickly so there's little risk (like sometimes with gummies) you sit around for 45 minutes and you're like I'm not really feeling anything so you pop another one and then they both seem to kick in at that same time. Liquid is best for maintaining control of your buzz...

Wow. Lots of responses here. I’ll definitely read through them all and thanks to everyone for chiming in.

I’m less concerned about falling asleep and more with taking something to mellow me out every now and then. I don’t have much issue with sleep since I got my bipap.

I accidentally took 20 mg of Delta 8 and was unpleasantly surprised 😬
I should have clarified the tincture vs the gummy - the oil definitely not as potent per mg. That one is the one where 25 is just mild elevation

Accidentally took 50 of a gummy of D8....thought it was 25. I was out of my mind within 90 minutes...paranoia, vomited, etc. I cut those things into quarters afterwards so never again...

Do not listen to super. Even though he has probably required a lot of meds over the years, he's not going to offer much advice you should follow on this topic.

BTW, I prefer the drink versions. My husband is the expert and gets them for me — look like beer cans but basically liquid edibles. I get the lowest dose ones and even then can sip slowly. One of those is more than enough for me. I found it too easy to consume the gummy candy edibles too fast before figuring out the effect. I swear, I think my husband can eat half a jar of those things but I am super sensitive to it for whatever reason. The right dose is super relaxing and pleasant but too much really messes with me — almost a psychedelic reaction and I don’t want any part of that.
Similar experience. In the right circumstance, 5mg can melt me. In the slightly off circumstance 5-7.5mg can give me auras, telescoping vision, and disturbing disassociations with time. 10mg and I'm either comatose or anxious as a squirrel.

What are you taking?

I have always found the time stuff trippy. Am I moving that fast or is time moving that slowly?

You can mail order Delta-9 into NC without any problems - most of what I've gotten was thru instagram ads and came from California or Oregon - paid for it with a credit card. Legit companies like PAX, Erth, Kiva Camino, etc. I've compared it to stuff I've brought back from Cali and can't tell a difference. A number of them have a 'pay shipping only' offer for the first order so try out a bunch...just do some searches and then your instagram will bombard you with ads and free offers.

Mine are Cheech & Chong brand. The ad says "discreetly packaged". It did come in an unmarked brown box, but the return address literally said "Tommy Chong" on it.

More often than not rosin based hybrid or indica gummies. I've used the fast acting syrups, but have consistently gotten headaches. I'm not into full sativa, too much time warp - like, I know I haven't been brushing my teeth for 30min b/c this thing hasn't buzzed yet, but, like, I've definitely been brushing my teeth for 30min.

I do not recommend these for people new to the game, but these are easily the best I have found. Experienced users - Start with a 1/2.

Same here but no vomiting, I just laid on the couch comatose for a couple of hours. Haven't taken any D8 since...
