Who would have thought South Africa would end up on top when the music stopped in this game of geopolitical musical chairs?

All the stories I have found on this so far point to the same source. But I also found stories in 2023 about Republicans criticizing the Biden Administration auctioning off left over wall materials (which they were doing supposedly in accordance with federal excess property disposition regulations).

Biden also had to apply some remaining border wall funds to build more wall in 2023:

So, no clear answer whether the last few auctions are some devious rush before Trump takes office or continuing a process that has been underway for over a year.
I saw your update on this, but can't find it again.

In the end, it was a big, juicy nothing burger because the selling was required by a bill.

You don't have to compromise when you're the CEO and controlling shareholder and no one tells you no. I think he is in for a rude awakening. Elon is going to figure out the limits of working within our Congressional system.
Your naivete is very endearing.

Elon isn't in Congress. He holds no office. He has no accountability to voters. There is no mechanism to control him because the Republicans are entirely in his pocket. He bought a government and he will run it as he sees fit.

We'll see. Trump couldn't get Congress to do what he wanted other than that big tax cut for rich donors which the Democrats suspiciously acquiesced to.

Musk: "By now, they should know that I mean what I say"

Except when I call a British diver a pedo, or say that Tesla is going private at $420, or tell my baby mamas that I will be a good dad.

...or dress up as Baphomet

He also has no authority to cut any department, defund any program, fire a single person, etc.

But he has the financial wherewithal to remove any elected official who opposes him at the next election.
Throwing this out there to potentially quell the concerns about the Trump admin.

You say Elon has the financial wherewithal to remove any elected official. I think Trump wins this election without Elon, but that's just speculation.

I recognize that financial support is huge...but I also know that Harris spent about double Trump and still lost.

I would also note that even Trump himself, when he put his full support behind candidates, couldn't get Kari Lake, Dr. Oz, etc elected. He has short coattails.

In other words, I don't see Congress agreeing to anything that is going to put the Republicans at risk in 2026, 2028 and beyond. Trump will be gone. While Trump is popular, none of the other MAGA-type underlings are and he's barely able to get his people into office when he's in power now.

How much would you say the in-kind contribution of misinformation made possible by Twitter was worth to Trump's campaign?

I think Elon's money would be much more effective in Congress. As you noted, Kamala doubled the spend of trump and still lost but over 90% of congressional races were decided in favor of the candidate who spent the most money.

I do think Trump can get an awful lot of Republicans primaried but his record of his candidate winning the general is actually pretty terrible. And I think that's pretty humbling. He did not endorse nearly as many people as strongly this cycle as he has in the past because I don't think he wants to be seen as a loser. So I don't see a lot of Republicans standing up forcefully to Trump but I do see Republicans in swing districts voting however is going to get them reelected and keeping their head down try not to draw Trump's ire.

Not sure. I believe Elon endorsed Trump after first assassination attempt. Did his support have an effect? I'm sure it did. Was that endorsement an election-changing event? I don't believe it was any more than Taylor Swift's endorsement made a huge difference. I think people generally make their own decisions.

He is not speaking about Musk’s endorsement, but instead about Musk’s propaganda machine.
